When she first arrived at the animal shelter, she was very scared… but as soon as she felt safe, her true heart began to show. Nani is pure attachment; when she trusts (which happens faster than you can imagine), she completely gives herself. She is always at our heels when we walk in the courtyard, always attentive, always seeking our closeness. She doesn’t like being alone; when her reference people (regular caregivers and volunteers) leave and she sees them through the fence, she cries uncontrollably, because for Nani the greatest reward is not food or play… it’s feeling accompanied. She is sensitive at the vet, she cooperates, but if something hurts, she complains, and who likes the doctor anyway? She walks well on a leash, although she needs a bond with the person leading her, preferring quieter environments where she can feel safe. She loves human company even more than dog company. She gets along well with other dogs, more or less ignoring them, although she has once or twice joined in a little race, but her priority is the caregivers (she has created a very close bond). In her box, she shares space with another Spanish Greyhound and it’s her who sets the rules: she doesn’t like sharing a bowl, and with a single glance, she makes her message clear; there’s no conflict, just character. She observed from a distance, as if she had learned that trusting can hurt… But a good person, without forcing her, began to feed her every day, although Nani didn’t want to take shelter, she never lacked a warm blanket to wrap herself in during the cold winter nights, and Nani understood. She understood that this routine was safety, that those hands didn’t want to trap her but to care for her. She stayed in the area, and thanks to that, they were able to contact us and rescue her. Nani es apego puro, cuando confía (lo hace más rápido de lo que imaginas) se entrega por completo. Es nuestra sombra cuando caminamos por el patio, siempre pendiente, siempre buscando nuestra cercanía. Lleva mal quedarse sola, cuando sus personas de referencia (cuidadoras y voluntariado asiduo) se alejan y los ve a través de la valla, llora desconsolada, porque para Nani el mayor premio no es la comida ni el juego… es sentirse acompañada. Es sensible en la veterinaria, se deja manipular, es buena, pero si algo duele se queja, y es que… ¿a quién le gusta el médico? Pasea bien con correa, aunque necesita vínculo con quien la lleva, mejor entornos tranquilos, donde pueda sentirse segura. Le encanta la compañía humana, incluso más que la perruna. Con otros perros convive bien, más bien los ignora, alguna vez se ha animado a echar una carrerita, pero su prioridad son las cuidadoras (ha creado un vinculo muy estrecho). En su box comparte espacio con otro galgo y es ella la que pone las normas: no le gusta compartir cuenco, y con una sola mirada deja claro su mensaje, no hay conflicto, solo carácter. Historia: Nani es de esas historias que empiezan con frío… y terminan con esperanza. En la calle se mostraba recelosa. No se dejaba coger. Observaba desde la distancia, como quien ha aprendido que confiar puede doler… Pero apareció una buena persona que, sin forzarla, comenzó a alimentarla cada día, aunque Nani no quería refugiarse bajo techo, jamás le faltó una manta calentita para pasar las frías noches de invierno un poco más arropada, y Nani entendió. Entendió que aquella rutina era seguridad, que aquellas manos no querían atraparla, sino cuidarla. Se quedó en la zona, y gracias a eso pudieron contactarnos y pudimos rescatarla.
