As this fish is used for therapeutic and cosmetic purposes by humans, primarily for nibbling away at hardened skin, especially on the feet, the red garra has also become known as the "doctor fish." The nibbling fish is quite adaptable and robust. These lively, sociable fish are active and enjoy swimming, and they are valued as algae eaters. Plants in the aquarium should be sturdy, such as ferns. The aquarium should also have hiding places, like roots, caves, and stones, so that individual red garras can rest when needed.

Rasse: Rötliche Saugbarben Geschlecht: weiblich, männlich Beschreibung: Die rötliche Saugbarbe wird maximal ca. 13 bis 14 cm lang und etwa 5 Jahre alt. Da dieser Fisch zu therapeutischen und kosmetischen Zwecken beim Menschen eingesetzt wird, wobei er zum Abknabbern verhornter Hautpartien vor allem der Füße genutzt wird, wurde die rötliche Saugbarbe auch als „Doktorfisch“ bekannt. Der Knabberfisch ist recht anpassungsfähig und robust. Die lebhaften Gruppenfische sind munter und schwimmfreudig und werden als Algenfresser geschätzt. Pflanzen im Aquarium sollten robust sein, wie z.B. Farne. Auch Versteckplätze im Aquarium in Form von Wurzeln oder Höhlen und Steinen dürfen nicht fehlen, damit sich einzelne Saugbarben auch mal ausruhen können.
