Boston is a new arrival at the shelter and is still settling into his new surroundings. He is a strong, affectionate boy who can be quite bouncy, and he is still learning how to walk calmly on the lead. At the moment, Boston doesn’t appear to have had much experience with lead walking. He can pull and change direction unexpectedly, so his future adopter will need to be prepared to continue teaching him. Mastíns are not usually dogs who are particularly interested in learning lots of tricks simply for the sake of it! If they can’t see the point, they may decide there is absolutely no reason to cooperate. However, with patience, consistency and a little motivation, Boston can learn the important things he needs to know, including how to walk nicely on the lead. Boston is a little unsure around other dogs. If he needs to pass just one dog, he generally manages well, but when there are several dogs together, he can become nervous and may bark and lunge. His adopter will therefore need to be physically strong and confident enough to manage him safely while he learns to feel more comfortable in these situations. With enough space, Boston can walk alongside another dog, and he is a lovely boy who enjoys attention, affection and a good cuddle. As he is still new to the shelter, we are continuing to get to know him and expect that his confidence will develop as he becomes more settled. Boston would suit an adopter who understands large breeds, is prepared to continue his lead training and can give him the calm, consistent guidance he needs. In return, he has plenty of affection to give and will be very happy to receive it!
