Gender: female Birthday: 2016 Castrated/Neutered: yes Weight: 27 kg Back story: Daisy used to live at Souda Square and came to the shelter after being attacked by another dog in July 2025. Description/Updates/Pictures: Update July 2026: The long period of recovery from her injury is now well behind. Today, Daisy is a happy senior lady who loves relaxing on the couch. She goes outside with another senior, our Jiles but she isn't really interested in other dogs. To Daisy two things matter most: cuddles and tasty treats. Update April 2026: Daisy is an old lady who lived on the street for the majority of her life until she got attacked from her pack. After a long journey she finally recovered fully. She likes to eat, sleep and cuddle- give a senior a chance! Update October 2025: It has been 3 months since Daisy came into our care. She has made good progress, though we’re not at the end of her recovery yet. She was a street dog in Chania. But Daisy is enjoying life now; cuddles, cooling mats and she has even started to lie on her very own bed. Step by step she’s settling in and finding comfort. Update July 2025: If you have been to Souda Square, you know Daisy. Daisy is the local old lady hound that rests, eats and sleeps at the square. Supposedly everyone loves her. Supposedly everyone cares for her. Until she is injured and hands must go into their pockets, then sadly, she is no one’s dog. She is a stray. I received a phone call one morning that there was an injured dog at the square that needed help. I asked if it was one of the regulars. “No, just a stray”. And this was from the cafe that had “housed” her for so many years. I asked for a photo so as to know who we are looking for and they sent me Daisy. “That’s Daisy! Why did you just call her a stray! Years ago when I wanted to take her from the square you yelled and insisted I not touch her! That you all loved her and would care for her! I will of course pick her up but please, we are a non profit, can you collect any funding so that we can cover her costs?” Dead at the other end of the line…. I called others at the square and the ONLY one, the ONLY person/business who whole heartedly said she would cover the costs was my friend Marianna. Marianna owns the Parthenon Hotel. Marianna is an animal lover and a good person. I was touched. Back to Daisy. Daisy was attacked by another dog. We don’t know when or who or how. All we are allowed to know is that she was injured and that we must help. We have been treating Daisy for many days now. Giving her the utmost quality care. She is not happy at the shelter but is starting to get comfortable. Richard, our caretaker, even boiled her chicken when she refused to eat. We have a long road ahead of us. Lots of necrotic skin.
