Emma (black and white) and Emily (tiger with white), born in April 2026, are two sweet explorers looking for a new home. They were tested positive for FIV. FIV stands for the "Feline Immunodeficiency Virus" - an immune deficiency disease similar to HIV in humans. The transmission among cats occurs mainly through bite injuries. For Emma and Emily, this positive test means that they are either: infected with FIV (cats then remain carriers of the virus for life) or not infected, but have antibodies from the mother's milk in their blood. Since the mother was FIV-positive, these antibodies were transmitted to the kittens through the mother's milk. The virus itself is rarely transmitted from the mother to the kittens. These antibodies can remain detectable in the blood until the age of about 6 months. Therefore, the two should be retested at 6 months. Die zwei wurden positiv auf FIV getestet. FIV steht für das «Feline Immundefizienz-Virus» – eine Immunschwäche-Erkrankung, ähnlich wie HIV beim Menschen. Die Übertragung unter Katzen erfolgt vorwiegend durch Bissverletzungen. Bei Emma und Emily bedeutet dieser positive Test, dass sie entweder: mit FIV infiziert sind (Katzen bleiben dann ein Leben lang Träger des Virus) oder nicht infiziert sind, jedoch Antikörper aus der Muttermilch im Blut aufweisen. Da die Mutter FIV-positiv war, wurden diese Antikörper über die Muttermilch auf die Kitten übertragen. Das Virus selbst wird nur selten von der Mutter auf die Kitten übertragen. Diese Antikörper können bis zum Alter von etwa 6 Monaten im Blut nachweisbar bleiben. Mit 6 Monaten sollten die zwei deshalb nochmals nachgetestet werden.
