Background: The Brittany Spaniel Grace recently arrived at the animal shelter of Pro Animal on La Gomera along with her puppies. This marks a new chapter for her, as her life up until now has been anything but easy. Her former owner kept several dogs for hunting over many years. Due to unplanned litters, the number of all the animals grew to about 16. As he now has to leave the property, Grace and the other dogs could be taken in, giving them their first chance at a better life. Grace spent a large part of her life in a cage, with minimal human contact and without the opportunity to gain everyday experiences. Consequently, she is still cautious and reserved, but she takes very calm and caring care of her puppies. With other dogs, Grace is social and orients herself towards them, which gives her security. There is much that is new for her and her puppies now – they need time, patience, and a quiet environment to build trust. In the coming weeks, we will get to know them better and can provide more information about their character. One thing is already certain: Grace and her puppies deserve a real chance at a life in safety and with loving companionship.

Vorgeschichte Bretonenhündin Grace ist vor Kurzem gemeinsam mit ihren Welpen ins Tierheim von Pro Animal auf La Gomera gekommen. Für sie beginnt damit ein neues Kapitel, denn ihr bisheriges Leben war alles andere als einfach. Ihr ehemaliger Besitzer hielt über viele Jahre mehrere Hunde für die Jagd. Durch ungewollte Würfe wuchs die Zahl aller Tiere auf etwa 16 an. Da er das Grundstück nun verlassen muss, konnten Grace und die anderen Hunde übernommen werden und haben erstmals die Chance auf ein besseres Leben. Grace verbrachte einen Großteil ihres Lebens in einem Käfig, mit kaum Kontakt zu Menschen und ohne die Möglichkeit, Alltagserfahrungen zu sammeln. Entsprechend zeigt sie sich noch vorsichtig und zurückhaltend, kümmert sich aber sehr ruhig und fürsorglich um ihre Welpen. Mit anderen Hunden ist Grace sozial und orientiert sich an ihnen, was ihr Sicherheit gibt. Für sie und ihre Welpen ist jetzt vieles neu – sie brauchen Zeit, Geduld und ein ruhiges Umfeld, um Vertrauen zu entwickeln. In den kommenden Wochen werden wir sie besser kennenlernen und mehr über ihren Charakter berichten können. Sicher ist schon jetzt: Grace und ihre Welpen verdienen eine echte Chance auf ein Leben in Geborgenheit und mit liebevoller Begleitung.
