Makani's story is similar to that of many other cats: he was found as a stray. The vet estimated him to be around 12 years old. He was severely underweight, nearly blind in one eye and visibly very ill. If he hadn't been discovered by animal-loving people, it's hard to imagine what would have happened. But Makani was lucky: his finders brought him to the county animal shelter. There he received a beautiful name "Makani" - Hawaiian for "wind". At the shelter, he was lovingly medically cared for, vaccinated, chipped and nursed back to health. Due to his age and health issues, however, he is no longer available for adoption. That's why we took over Makani with the four white socks as a pet on a life-support basis. We would like to say this once and for all: at Tierschutzhof Ering, we deliberately take in animals that don't have a spectacular "donation story", because even very "normal" strays like Makani deserve a chance. Nobody knows where the poor fellow came from. Of course, we will never find out. The only thing that is certain: he was found. He was sick. He is no longer available for adoption. So he comes to us. Period. Nevertheless, we very much hope that people who read this will support us financially - in the confidence that they are not being presented with a media-effective donation story, but that their help really reaches the animals, honestly, fairly and realistically. As it is! In his new home, Makani now lives in our Handicap WG together with Käpt'n Jacky and Luna. The coexistence with the three of them works very well, because both Käpt'n Jacky and Luna are social and tolerant cats and have integrated Makani well. Makani’s Geschichte ähnelt der vieler anderer Katzen: Er wurde als Fundtier aufgefunden. Der Tierarzt schätzte ihn auf etwa 12 Jahre. Er war stark abgemagert, auf einem Auge fast blind und war sichtbar sehr krank. Wäre er nicht von tierlieben Menschen entdeckt worden, man wagt es nicht daran zu denken. Doch Makani hatte Glück: Seine Finder brachten ihn ins Landkreistierheim. Dort bekam er seinen schönen Namen „Makani“ – hawaiianisch für „Wind“. Im Tierheim wurde er liebevoll medizinisch versorgt, geimpft, gechippt und wieder aufgepäppelt. Aufgrund seines Alters und seiner gesundheitlichen Baustellen ist er jedoch nicht mehr vermittelbar. Deshalb haben wir Makani mit den vier weißen Söckchen als Gnadenbrottier übernommen. Das möchten wir auch einmal ganz deutlich sagen: Am Tierschutzhof Ering nehmen wir bewußt Tiere auf, die keine spektakuläre „Spendengeschichte“ haben, weil auch ganz "normale" Fundtiere wie Makani eine Chance verdienen. Niemand weiß, woher der arme Kerl kommt. Das werden wir natürlich nie erfahren. Fest steht nur: Er wurde gefunden. Er war krank. Er ist nicht mehr vermittelbar. Also kommt er zu uns. Punkt. Trotzdem hoffen wir sehr, dass die Menschen, die das hier lesen, uns finanziell unterstützen — im Vertrauen darauf, dass ihnen keine medienwirksame Spendengeschichte aufgetischt wird, sondern dass ihre Hilfe wirklich bei den Tieren ankommt, ehrlich, fair und real. So wie es ist! In seinem neuen Zuhause lebt Makani nun in unserer Handicap-WG zusammen mit Käpt’n Jacky und Luna. Das Zusammenleben mit den dreien klappt sehr gut, denn sowohl Käpt'n Jacky als auch Luna sind soziale und verträgliche Katzen und haben Makani gut integriert.
