We get it, Rosa is adorable, and lots of people are going to want to adopt her. But, Rosa has very specific needs in an adoptive home and we will be taking a lot of care in placing her (as we do with all our dogs). We expect lots of applications and as A Dog’s Life is 100% volunteer run, we just won’t be able to process applications that don’t meet Rosa’s specific homing criteria, unfortunately. Read the following carefully and apply only if you can offer what Rosa needs – there isn’t a lot of wiggle room here so please don’t make it awkward. Rosa is a 3-5 year old Chihuahua female who is physically healthy. She has been in an amazing foster home for several months now so we have got to know her quite well. Rosa is fearful. This is likely related to her not having had sufficient and appropriate exposure to the world as a youngster. This impacts her behaviour greatly, meaning that she will attempt to avoid new people, may spook at noises, and take time to recover from even minor changes. This isn’t “curable” but we can help Rosa to continue to develop coping skills to feel safe in her world. In foster, she has come on in leaps and bounds with her foster human as they have worked through a very specific program of behaviour modification, enrichment and confidence building. This will need to continue. As she has settled, her true Chi character has revealed itself and, in her comfort zone, Rosa is a confident and funny wee girl, full of silliness and play. It’s going to take Rosa quite a while to find her feet once she moves to her new home and the first three months will be crucial. Her new human may also need to be available to visit Rosa several times before taking her home. A home of max. two adults only – Rosa is more comfortable with women, so that will be prioritised A home without many visitors and no children. A house in a relatively quiet area; not apartment living. Access to secure garden (not shared). A human who is willing and fully on board with working through a behaviour modification program with Rosa and AniEd, over the long term. No other pet (a small breed male companion dog may work but will be assessed on an individual basis). An abundance of patience, time and understanding – Rosa may form a bond and comfort with only one person and this will take time (months at least). Close monitoring of her environment to maintain her comfort and support her. Her new human will work closely with AniEd to develop and work on an introduction and settling in plan appropriate for Rosa. Rosa is fully vaccinated and microchipped (972274001282094) and will be neutered before going to her forever home. If you meet these criteria and can offer Rosa the home that she needs fill out adoption form. Only forms from homes that match the specific re-homing criteria for this dog will be processed.
