10-06-26 This wonderful little cat is Gem and she came to us from a breeder a few months ago. When she arrived she was quite unwell, but thanks to the love and care she has received she is now a very sweet and happy girl! When Gem arrived with us, she was suffering from cat flu and an upper respiratory infection, leaving her feeling lethargic and quite congested. She has since completed her treatment, is feeling much better, and is now ready to find her forever home. As part of her treatment, Gem underwent several tests. She tested positive for feline coronavirus, which is a common virus found in many cats. Most cats carrying feline coronavirus remain perfectly healthy and never develop any related illness. Gem also tested negative for both FIV and FeLV. Cats can remain carriers of both cat flu and feline coronavirus even after they have recovered, and so, as a precaution, we are looking for a home where Gem can be the only cat. This will allow her to settle in comfortably and avoid any risk of passing infections on to other feline companions particularly as stress can sometimes increase viral shedding or trigger a recurrence of symptoms. As Gem has been with us for quite a while now, she has seen a few calm dogs and actually seems to really enjoy watching them and so we would consider homing her where there was a gentle, cat savvy dog. Gem has become a firm favourite with everyone here, with many people making it a point in their day to go and say hello to her. She loves to explore and loves to have a gentle fuss and will ask for more when you stop. She has never lived in a home environment before, so she will need plenty of time, patience and TLC as she adjusts to home life. She has never been outdoors, so will need to be kept as an indoor-only cat to keep her safe. Access to a secure catio would be a lovely bonus, allowing her some fresh air and enrichment in a controlled environment, though this is not essential. Gem is looking for a calm and quiet home where she can settle in at her own pace and once she's settled enjoy lots of love and attention. Gem has a travel document.
