Sunny is around four years old and has come on in such an incredible way during his time in our care. When Sunny first arrived with us, he was an unneutered tom who had clearly experienced a difficult life outdoors. Battle-worn, with numerous cuts and scratches and a nasty wound to his neck, Sunny was understandably extremely wary of people. For months, he did little more than hide and hiss, only emerging with any enthusiasm when food was involved — which he would gobble down as quickly as he could. His progress has been slow, steady and completely on his terms. But with months of patience, consistency and a gentle approach, we’ve gradually earned his trust. The cat who once wanted nothing to do with us will now seek out company, accept gentle fuss and even reward us with the occasional purr! After everything he’s overcome, Sunny is now officially ready to begin looking for his forever home! Sunny needs a very special kind of home, with someone patient, experienced and willing to love him for who he is without expecting too much too quickly in return. He may continue to grow in confidence once settled into a home, but his adopter will need to accept that he may never become a traditional lap cat — and that’s perfectly okay. Behind his wary exterior, Sunny has a loving heart and a fierce spirit. His experiences have taught him to be cautious of the world, but they haven’t taken away his ability to trust. What Sunny needs now is something he may never have truly had before: a safe, steady and permanent home where he can finally put his roots down. Due to his nervous nature, we can only consider experienced cat owners who understand that building trust with a wary cat can take time. Sunny will also need access to a quiet, separate space of his own where he can settle initially and retreat whenever things become overwhelming. His new family must be willing to let him progress at his own pace and allow the relationship to develop naturally. As Sunny is currently living in a rescue cabin, our ability to fully assess how he will behave living alongside other animals is limited. However, we have been able to observe his reactions to cats in the surrounding area. So far, Sunny appears curious and interested in them; he will come to the door, watch them and become quite vocal when they are nearby. While we cannot guarantee how he would respond to sharing a home with another animal, these behaviours suggest that a home with an existing cat may be considered, provided introductions are carried out very slowly and correctly and the resident cat is also suitable. Sunny isn’t looking for someone to change him. He’s looking for someone willing to give him the safety, patience and love he needs to continue becoming the cat we know is underneath all those years of uncertainty. If you think you could be Sunny’s special person and offer him the understanding forever home he deserves, please complete our adoption form. Please note with the increase in cost of veterinary treatment we now require adopters to take out relevant insurance - we will provide more information during the adoption process. Every cat deserves the opportunity to be provided with the required veterinary treatment should they need it during times of illness or injury.
