Home » Adoptions » cats in search of a family » Sylvestra Sylvestra I was born on: March 20, 2014 I've been here since: December 2014 I like to: play with the laser I don't like when: you reach your hand towards me I found my nest: ohhh... not yet Sylvestra is one of those cats who, when taken from the street and put in a shelter, don't remain shy and scared as they were before, but become wilder instead. We don't know exactly why, but in some cases it seems that we, humans, make a mistake when forcing such a cat to tolerate an environment it doesn't want, to be with dozens of other cats and to socialize with humans. Probably we cause them trauma right from the moment we catch them, trauma from which some recover over time - if they return to the environment they know, others never do; some even get sick because of the stress, while the lucky ones adapt, even if they remain hidden for a long time. Our little girl was caught in the winter of 2014, a year we don't really want to remember. She and other cats from the area were taken for sterilization by two kind ladies, who asked us for help with some of them, including Sylvestra, because some "well-meaning" residents threatened to poison them. From the very first day she came to us, we could see in the cat's eyes not only fear and desperation, but also a firm determination to defend herself with her teeth and claws if needed. Although she was presented to us as a friendly cat, her reaction was attributed to the change of environment, but the truth was far from that. Although she was not yet a year old, the kitten was extremely traumatized, which became more than clear after several months of trying in vain to get close to her. What happened to her, why she couldn't stand our presence even after many months, we will never know. But it is certain that, as time passed, Sylvestra became more and more wild. She hid under shelves or in hard-to-reach places, and only came out when we weren't in the room. We were happy that she came out and ate, although never in our presence. The second change she went through was moving, two years later - again, a traumatic experience for her, just like for other shy cats. But we had no choice, we had to leave the house where we had all become used to and move into the new rooms. Again, Sylvestra found the best hiding spots and I only saw her occasionally, standing on some shelf high up. She was incredibly beautiful, our cat, with black shiny fur and the eyes of a wild panther, but distant and inaccessible. And so she remained for a long time... Recently, that is, four years after she came to us, we noticed a change: Sylvestra was relaxed in a basket, next to another cat. And not only that, but she didn't run away when we approached! For a while we didn't try to touch her, out of fear that she might misinterpret our gesture and run away again, so we were satisfied to leave a bowl of food near her. Then, as if by magic, she let us touch and pet her a few times! We can't describe the joy we felt when, after so much bitterness, she finally showed us a sign of trust. So we intend to show her that we deserve her completely, and we will do everything possible not to lose her, hoping that the day will come when we can cuddle her and especially the day when she will trust people. And you, who read these lines, know that the beautiful story of Sylvestra will continue. We are on the right path and we sincerely hope to bring you even better news, even if it may take a while. Nu stim exact de ce, dar in unele cazuri se pare ca noi, oamenii, facem o greseala atunci cand fortam o astfel de pisica sa suporte un mediu pe care nu il doreste, sa stea cu zeci de alte pisici si sa socializeze cu fiintele umane. Probabil le provocam o trauma inca din momentul in care le prindem, o trauma de pe urma careia unele isi revin cu timpul – daca se intorc in mediul pe care il cunosc, altele niciodata; unele se imbolnavesc chiar din cauza stresului, in timp ce norocoasele se adapteaza, chiar daca raman ascunse multa vreme. Fetita noastra a fost prinsa in iarna lui 2014, un an de care nu prea dorim sa ne amintim. Ea si alte pisici din zona au fost duse la sterilizat de doua doamne cu intentii bune, care ne cerusera ajutorul pentru cateva dintre ele, printre care si Sylvestra, deoarece unii locatari „binevoitori” amenintau cu otrava. Inca din prima zi in care a venit la noi, in ochii pisicii puteam vedea nu doar frica si disperarea, dar si hotararea ferma de a se apara de noi cu dintii si cu ghearele, daca era nevoie. Desi ne-a fost prezentata ca fiind o pisica prietenoasa, reactia ei fiind pusa pe seama schimbarii mediului, adevarul era departe de a fi acesta. Desi nu avea inca un an, puiuta era extrem de traumatizata, ceea ce a devenit mai mult decat clar dupa cateva luni in care am incercat in zadar sa ne apropiem de ea. Ce s-o fi intamplat cu ea, de ce nu ne suporta in apropierea ei nici dupa mai multe luni, nu vom sti niciodata. Cert este insa ca, pe masura ce vremea trecea, Sylvestra devenea din ce in ce mai salbatica. Statea ascunsa sub rafturi sau in locuri greu accesibile, si nu iesea decat atunci cand noi nu mai eram in camera. Ne bucuram ca iesea totusi si manca si ea, desi niciodata in prezenta noastra. A doua schimbare prin care a trecut a fost mutarea, doi ani mai tarziu – din nou, o experienta traumatizanta pentru ea, ca si pentru alte pisici mai fricoase. Dar nu aveam ce face, trebuia sa parasim casa in care ne obisnuiseram cu totii si sa ne instalam in noile camere. Din nou, Sylvestra si-a gasit cele mai bune ascunzisuri si doar ocazional o vedeam, stand pe vreun raft la inaltime. Era de o frumusete incredibila, pisa noastra, cu o blana neagra si stralucitoare si ochii unei pantere salbatice, insa distanta, inaccesibila. Si asa avea sa ramana inca o vreme buna… Recent insa, adica la patru ani de la venirea ei, am observat o schimbare: Sylvestra stand relaxata intr-un cos, alaturi de alta pisica. Si nu doar atat, dar nu mai fugea atunci cand ne apropiam! Nu am incercat sa o atingem inca o vreme, de frica sa nu interpreteze gresit gestul nostru si sa fuga din nou, ci ne-am multumit sa lasam un bol de mancare in apropierea ei. Apoi, ca printr-o minune, ne-a lasat sa o atingem si sa o mangaiem de cateva ori! Nu cred ca va putem descrie bucuria pe care am simtit-o atunci cand, dupa atata amar de vreme, ne-a aratat – in sfarsit, un semn de incredere. Asa ca noi avem de gand sa ii demonstram ca o meritam pe deplin si vom face tot posibilul sa nu o pierdem, in speranta ca va veni ziua in care o vom putea alinta si pe ea si mai ales, ziua in care ea va avea incredere in oameni. Iar voi, cei care ati citit aceste randuri, sa stiti ca povestea frumoasei Sylvestra va continua. Suntem pe drumul cel bun si speram din suflet ca vom reveni cu vesti mai mult decat bune, chiar daca va mai dura o buna bucata de vreme. Tineti pumnii! Adopta-ma! Adopta-ma la distanta! Adoptia unei pisicute din adapostul nostru se face in baza unui contract de adoptie. De ce? Pentru ca ne pasa! Conditiile impuse de Asociatia Prietenii Pisicilor sunt usor de respectat atunci cand persoana care adopta este responsabila si iubeste intr-adevar pisicile. Va multumim!
