Adopter Chewwie

Chewwie originally came to us from a breeder to find his forever home. He was lucky enough to be adopted, but sadly, despite being very loved, it became clear that the home wasn't quite the right match for him and he has now returned to our care to begin his search once again. Chewwie was very worried of the adult sons in the home and also wasn't a great match with the smaller resident dog. Chewwie is a sensitive boy who had experienced very little before coming into rescue and can find unfamiliar situations overwhelming. In his previous home, he formed a very close bond with his female adopter and absolutely adored her, but remained worried around the adult sons in the household. For this reason, he is looking for a calm and quiet home with patient adopters who have experience of nervous ex-breeding dogs and who will allow him all the time he needs to settle and build trust. Since returning to our care, however, Chewwie has been an absolute pleasure. From the day he came back, he has been nothing but gentle, loving and affectionate with everyone here. Despite being returned because he was said to be nervous, we have seen a completely different side to him in kennels. He happily bounces over to greet us, is always looking for a fuss, and simply loves being around people. His affectionate nature shines through every day, and he has reminded us just what a special boy he is. Although he had never lived in a home before his adoption, Chewwie adapted beautifully to family life. He was house trained and thoroughly enjoyed all the comforts of home, especially curling up in his cosy beds. He did find being left alone quite worrying, so his new adopters will need to be around for most of the time initially and gradually build up any time spent alone as his confidence grows. Chewwie will need another kind and confident resident dog in his new home to help reassure him and show him the ropes, but this dog will need to be medium-sized or larger. He previously shared his home with a cat and happily ignored them, so he could potentially live with a dog-savvy cat. Since being adopted, Chewwie has learnt to walk nicely on a lead and now really enjoys his walks, although he can still be worried in unfamiliar places and will benefit from ongoing encouragement as his confidence continues to grow. Once Chewwie knows you, he is an incredibly loving and affectionate companion with a wonderfully cheeky personality. He loves playing with other dogs and is especially fond of his kennel friend. He's also a total water baby and absolutely loves splashing around in the paddling pool, making the most of every opportunity for fun. Like many mischievous youngsters, he has also been known to pinch things he shouldn't! His adopters will need to keep a close eye on shoes and other tempting items, as he developed quite a fondness for chewing shoes in his previous home. He especially enjoys hard toys, while softer toys and enrichment items should be supervised as he can quickly chew through them. Chewwie is a truly special boy who has so much love to give. His return to rescue has shown us just how affectionate, gentle and resilient he is, and we know that in the right home he will continue to flourish. In return, his lucky adopters will gain a devoted, fun-loving and wonderfully cheeky companion who will fill their days with smiles. When Chewwie first arrived, he had a lick granuloma on his front leg, which healed well. Following his return to the rescue, he began limping on the same leg and holding it up. X-rays at a local veterinary practice showed no abnormalities or injuries, so it is thought to be a soft tissue injury which should continue to improve. His adopters and their own vet should continue to monitor this as a precaution. Chewwie has a travel document. This dog can be homed with a resident dog. This dog can be homed with cats.
