06-06-26 Gemma is a sweet girl who has come into our care from a breeder in search of a new start. She is the most confident of her kennel friends and will come out to say hello and will let you gently stroke her. She is still quite a shy girl and will need love and TLC to come out of her shell. Gemma arrived with us with a ear infection and several mammary lumps. Our vets also noted that her lower incisors were worn, though these do not currently require any action, she may need dental work in the future. Since arrival, Gemma has been spayed and undergone surgery to repair an inguinal hernia, during which two of her mammary lumps were also removed. Once she had recovered from this procedure, she returned for a second operation to have a further four mammary lumps removed. She is recovering well from her surgeries and is now ready to begin her search for a loving forever home. Gemma finds comfort in the company of her kennel friends so will need a kind and confident resident dog in her new home to be her friend and companion. She will be best suited to a calm and quiet home and would benefit from adopters who have experience of scared ex-breeding dogs. We would consider homing her with dog savvy teenagers. As Gemma has never lived in a home before, she will need to learn all about house training, lead training, and the other basics of home life. With patience, routine, and gentle encouragement, she will begin to build confidence and settle into family life. She is starting to learn all about walking on a lead and harness, but will need more practice to gain confidence. Gemma is a gentle little girl who will benefit from a calm and supportive home environment. With the help of another dog and a caring family, she has every chance to blossom into a loving and loyal companion. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.
