Babu ist ein wunderschönes großes, flaumiges weißes Pod, der im Frühjahr 2020 als junger Welpen zum Hope For Podencos-Unterstand gekommen ist. Er wurde im August 2020 adoptiert und hat seit 5,5 Jahren ein Zuhause, doch wir sind uns mit seinen aktuellen Besitzern einig, dass trotz ihrer Arbeit mit Trainern und Verhaltensforschern in den letzten Jahren, ihre lebendige häusliche Umgebung mit regelmäßigen jungen Kindern, die besuchen, nicht die Umgebung ist, in der er gedeihen kann. Hier ist, was sie über ihn sagen: „Babu ist ein lieber Junge, der echte Loyalität und Zärtlichkeit zeigt, sobald er dich kennt. Er kann manchmal etwas unsicher sein, aber mit einer ruhigen, konsistenten Herangehensweise entwickelt er sich richtig. Er liebt Aufmerksamkeit, besonders Kratzspiele am Hals und an den Ohren, und kommt oft und legt seinen Kopf auf deinen Schoß, um nahe zu sein. Er ist eine wunderbare Gesellschaft im Alltag und möchte einfach sicher und geliebt fühlen. Er geht sehr gut an der Leine und liebt es, rauszugehen und zu erkunden, aber zu Hause ist er genauso glücklich, wenn er herumstreift und sich in seinem Käfig niederlässt, der sein beliebtester Ort zum Entspannen ist. Er kann etwas laut sein, beruhigt sich aber schnell mit der richtigen Herangehensweise. Er hat mit anderen Hunden gelebt und verträgt sich am besten mit ruhigen, da sehr aufgeregte Hunde seine Energielevel erhöhen können. Babu liebt sein Futter und genießt Suchspiele. Er hat großartige Fortschritte bei der Ausbildung im Umgang mit Futter gemacht, benötigt aber ein Zuhause, das dies weiterhin konsequent verwalten wird.“ Babu ist ein zärtlicher und ruhiger Hund, der nichts mehr liebt als einen Kopf- und Ohrenmassage und manchmal aktiv nach Aufmerksamkeit von Menschen sucht. Er hat viele großartige Eigenschaften. Er wird von seinen aktuellen Adoptiveltern sehr geliebt, die diese Entscheidung sehr schwierig fanden, aber wissen, dass es für Babu richtig ist. Wie erwähnt, haben sie viel Arbeit mit Babu geleistet und daher kennt er verschiedene Befehle für bestimmte Situationen, die wir selbstverständlich mit jedem zukünftigen Adoptivelternteil teilen werden. Er ist im Käfig ausgebildet und erkennt seinen Käfig wirklich als sein sicheres Zuhause, und kann bei Bedarf eingeschlossen werden. Er ist nicht zerstörerisch im Haus, reist gut im Rücksitz des Autos, aber nicht so gut im Kofferraum und kann tagsüber zu Hause ruhig bleiben. Im Kern seiner Herausforderungen liegt ein Maß an Angst, was bedeutet, dass er Stabilität und Routine sowie ein ruhiges, friedliches Leben benötigt, das zu seiner ruhigen Persönlichkeit passt. Seine aktuellen Besitzer haben bereits eine große Menge Arbeit mit ihm geleistet und er geht jetzt viel ruhiger und sicherer an der Leine, reagiert nur noch auf laute Traktoren, obwohl er früher auf ... reagiert hat.

After five and a half years in a loving home, the difficult decision has been made to re-home Babu. Changes in the family have led to a busy household at times, with regular visits from young children, which is not the right environment for Babu to feel at ease and thrive. He is a gentle, affectionate podenco who forms deep bonds with his humans. Here is what his current owners have to say about him: “Babu is a lovely boy who shows real loyalty and affection once he gets to know you. He loves a fuss and will often come and rest his head in your lap just to be close. He’s wonderful company day to day and really just wants to feel safe and loved.” In the right home, Babu is a calm and rewarding companion. He walks well on the lead in quieter environments and enjoys getting out and about, particularly in more rural areas. At home, he is settled and content, happily pottering around before retreating to his crate - which he sees as a safe and comforting space. He is clean in the house, not destructive, travels well in the car, and is able to be left during the day. Babu is a sensitive dog who can become overwhelmed in busy or unpredictable environments - this is anxiety based. When he is given space, routine and a calm environment, he is able to regulate well and show his true, relaxed nature. His current owners have worked extensively with trainers and behaviourists, and he has made significant progress. He can still be reactive to other dogs when on the lead, particularly if they are close. However, this is much improved and is manageable with the right handling, distance and awareness. He now walks far more calmly and confidently overall, and is able to pass many everyday triggers that he previously found difficult. He is an intelligent dog who learns quickly with consistent training. Food rewards are an important part of his ongoing training, particularly for building positive associations and confidence. Babu does have a history of resource guarding around food, which has been greatly improved through careful management and training - and again is anxiety based. Babu is looking for a quiet, adult-only home where he can enjoy a more peaceful and predictable lifestyle. He would suit someone with experience of sensitive or anxious dogs who understands the importance of routine, calm handling and giving a dog space when needed. He could live as an only dog or alongside another, well-balanced dog, as he has previously shown. A home in a quieter area with access to quiet walks would help him continue the positive progress he has already made. Babu has so many wonderful qualities and, in the right environment, he offers a huge amount of love, loyalty and companionship. He is a deeply affectionate dog who bonds closely with his people and will flourish in a home that understands his needs and gives him the stability he is looking for. Babu will be fostered or adopted with ongoing support and guidance from ourselves, our trainer, and the behaviourist who has been working with him. We are happy to talk through his behaviour plan in detail. He is currently based in Leeds, and any potential adopter or foster would need to meet him prior to any placement being finalised.
