We picked up Lorenzo from inside a garage; he was completely motionless, curled up with his head touching the ground. He was nothing but skin and bones, completely dehydrated. We rushed him to the vet, and we thought the worst. At first, we assumed he was a stray cat, but when we started handling him, we noticed he began purring and seeking affection. We saw that he had been neutered, so it all points to the fact that he was a cat who had been abandoned on the streets, probably because he couldn't adapt to living there. He was hospitalized for a week and under treatment for almost a month. At first, he didn't coordinate well and lost his balance; we thought he might have received a head injury. As days passed, we noticed his behavior was a bit strange; he would suddenly beg for petting and purring, then attack and bite. To find out what was going on, we took him to a neurologist specialist in Madrid, and they told us there was nothing neurologically wrong; rather, his problem was behavioral. We consulted with an animal behaviorist, who said that Lorenzo's problem was that he had been poorly educated by the family that abandoned him. When you have a cat from a young age, you need to play with him using specific cat toys; if you play with your hands, it can lead to behaviors like Lorenzo's, where he thinks you're playing and he has to 'hunt' your hands. Now we are re-educating him, and we are sure that in a few months, he will be a normal, completely affectionate cat.

Recogimos a Lorenzo dentro de un garaje, estaba totalmente inmóvil, acurrucado con la cabeza pegando en el suelo. Sólo era pellejo y hueso, estaba totalmente deshidratado. Le llevamos de urgencia al veterinario y pensábamos en lo peor. Al principio asumimos que era un gato callejero, pero cuando empezamos a manipularle pudimos observar que comenzaba a ronronear y a pedir mimos. Vimos que estaba castrado, así que, todo hace pensar que es un gato al que han abandonado a su suerte en la calle, probablemente por eso estaba en ese estado de salud, porque no ha sabido adaptarse a vivir en la calle. Estuvo hospitalizado una semana y con tratamiento casi un mes, al principio no coordinaba bien y perdía el equilibrio, pensábamos que igual hubiera recibido algún golpe en la cabeza. Con los días, le notamos un comportamiento un tanto extraño, tan pronto de está pidiendo caricias y ronroneando como te ataca y te muerde. Para saber qué le estaba pasando le llevamos a un especialista neurólogo a Madrid, y allí nos dijeron que no había nada neurológico, sino más bien su problema era de conducta. Consultamos con un etólogo y nos dijo que el problema de Lorenzo es que había sido mal educado por la familia que después le abandonó. Cuando tienes un gato desde cría, hay que jugar con él con juguetes específicos de gatos, si juegas con tus manos puede derivar en comportamientos como el de Lorenzo, él cree que estamos jugando y que tiene que 'cazar' nuestras manos. Ahora estamos re-educandole y estamos seguros que en unos cuantos meses será un gato normal y completamente mimoso.
