Latina, a beautiful Podenco lady, was found all alone without a microchip in Hacienda Las Chapas, and judging by her tired look and stretched breasts, she has had some hardship behind her.... Latina has a beautiful chocolate brown fur, and even though her face is a bit white & grey already, the veterinary does not think her to be quite old yet. In the shelter environment, when going out from the kennel for walks, she is stressed and barks a lot, but away from the shelter she is actually really calm and quiet... Due to this, it might be difficult for Latina to find a home here locally when people come to visit her in the shelter, because they might see her being nervous and stressed, and not give her a chance even.... Latina has been out for the day with volunteers, and she visited the beach and the town. She walks very nicely on the leash, is not afraid of other dogs, or bicycles, cars or humans - very calmly just keeps walking and enjoying the scenery. Only when it gets very loud directly next to her, like a very loud rubbish truck passing by too close, then she gets scared. In general, Latina is a bit of an insecure dog, and is looking for a confident human, who will take care of her so she does not need to worry about anything anymore, and can just enjoy being a lovely dog. Latina is also not afraid of children, just insecure in herself or the situation, so potentially she could live in a home with children, whose energy is not too overwhelming. In the shelter, Latina is living together with different other dogs, and it would be lovely for her to move into a home that already has one or more dogs present. A calm, balanced and confident second dog would be ideal for her, however we think she could potentially also do well as a single dog in a calm home. At the moment she is not enjoying getting into a car yet, which probably is related also to lac of experience, but in her new home, would be good if in the beginning at least, she would not be required to constantly travel in the car. Repetitive simple daily routines will allow any dog to arrive and relax in their new homes faster, especially insecure or nervous dogs. Once Latina feels safe & secure in her surroundings, we believe that her confidence will quickly grow and she will bloom into a cheerful, playful, and loving companion. Her shoulder height is approximately 49cm.
