Meet Skip, a young Saluki Lurcher who arrived with us as a stray in poor condition. He was found underweight and helping himself to a packet of Skips crisps, which is how he earned his name! Despite everything, he has remained full of character, mischief and enthusiasm for life. When Skip came into our care, he was missing skin and claws on one of his back foot toes, leaving it sore and uncomfortable. He has responded well to treatment so far, although he still requires ongoing veterinary care and may need a toe amputation following veterinary advice. None of this has slowed him down. Skip is always ready for a zoomie, happily bouncing around with his signature booty run to help keep his toe beans clean! He loves to play, jump and make the most of every day. Salukis are often considered the quirky comedians of the lurcher world, and Skip certainly fits the bill. He is incredibly fast, can jump surprisingly high, and approaches life with endless enthusiasm. Access to a secure enclosed field a few times a week would be ideal for him to safely stretch his legs and burn off some of that classic Saluki steam. Skip’s new home will need a secure garden that is suitable for lurcher zoomies. As a fast, athletic young lad who loves to run and play, he will benefit from having a safe outdoor space where he can stretch his legs and enjoy burning off some energy between his adventures. As with many Saluki Lurchers, Skip is an active and intelligent young dog who is not for the faint hearted. Experience with Salukis or similar breeds would be beneficial, and his future family will need to continue developing his social skills and provide guidance as he grows into adulthood. Ongoing training classes will be important for both confidence building and continued learning, helping Skip become the very best version of himself. Skip is working hard on his canine social skills. He can be quite vocal when first meeting other dogs, but once he realises they are friends and not foes, he is generally keen to interact and enjoy their company. Continued positive social experiences will help him build confidence and develop these skills further. Skip could potentially live with older children who are confident around dogs. He is very much a jumping jack in the box and, while he means no harm, he could easily knock over smaller children in his excitement. He could also potentially live with a fun neutered canine companion who enjoys both playtime and relaxing. As a young and playful boy, Skip would benefit from a tolerant dog friend who can match his enthusiasm while also helping him learn when it is time to settle. Being a young and curious lad, Skip could potentially live with dog savvy cats following successful introductions. Skip is not quite ready to leave us yet, but he would be delighted to start meeting potential adopters. He cannot wait to find a family of his own and begin his next adventure. And did we mention he is the prettiest boy around?
