Adopt Rex

Rex arrived at the shelter in somewhat complicated circumstances. The adopter entrusted him to his mother and he has unfortunately never given any more news, leaving Rex behind. Despite all his good will, she was not able to properly care for him and had to look for a more suitable solution for him. Today, Rex is waiting for a family capable of committing for life. Rex is a dog that needs a little time to adapt, but once he trusts, he proves to be adorable at home. He is affectionate, playful, active, sociable, well-trained and attentive. He can be a bit exclusive in his attachment, but this mainly shows his need for connection and routines. He already has good training foundations: sit, lie down, shake hands, and even "smile"! He is housebroken and does not destroy things when his humans are away. Rex loves to play, and play is really part of his balance. However, he still has difficulty giving back his toys: a work on exchange will therefore need to be implemented gently and positively. He also has a real need to chew. However, he can be protective of certain valuable items like bones. It will therefore be important to manage and work on resource protection with consistency and kindness. According to his previous owners, Rex barked a lot when left alone. A vibration collar was used to try to limit the barking, a method we do not approve of. It will be important to re-establish the management of solitude gently, gradually and with kindness. But despite his vocalizations, he has never caused any damage.

Rex est arrivé au refuge dans des circonstances un peu compliquées. L’adoptant l’a confié à sa maman et celui-ci n’a malheureusement plus jamais donné de nouvelles, laissant Rex derrière lui. Malgré toute sa bonne volonté, elle n’était pas en mesure de s’en occuper correctement et a dû se résoudre à chercher pour lui une solution plus adaptée. Aujourd’hui, Rex attend une famille capable de s’engager pour la vie. Rex est un chien qui a besoin d’un petit temps d’adaptation, mais une fois en confiance, il se révèle adorable en maison. Il est affectueux, joueur, actif, sociable, éduqué et à l’écoute. Il peut se montrer un peu exclusif dans son attachement, mais cela témoigne surtout de son besoin de lien et de repères. Il possède déjà de bonnes bases d’éducation : assis, couché, donne la patte, et même “fais un sourire” ! Il est propre et ne détruit pas en l’absence de ses humains. Rex adore jouer, et le jeu fait vraiment partie de son équilibre. En revanche, il a encore du mal à rendre ses jouets : un travail sur l’échange sera donc à mettre en place en douceur et de manière positive. Il a également un vrai besoin de mastication. Cependant, il peut se montrer protecteur avec certains objets de valeur comme les os. Il sera donc important de gérer et travailler la protection de ressources avec cohérence et bienveillance. D’après ses anciens propriétaires, Rex aboyait beaucoup lorsqu’il restait seul. Un collier à vibration avait été utilisé pour tenter de limiter les aboiements, une méthode que nous ne cautionnons pas. Il sera important de reprendre la gestion de la solitude en douceur, progressivement et avec bienveillance. Mais malgré ses vocalises, il n’a jamais fait de dégâts.
