Bear is a fun-loving, affectionate young Rottweiler cross with a big personality and an equally big zest for life. As an adolescent large-breed dog, he is still learning about the world around him and will thrive with owners who can provide clear guidance, consistency, and plenty of positive experiences as he matures. Bear is a clever dog who enjoys learning and will benefit from owners who are willing to practise his training regularly and celebrate his successes. He has already begun learning important foundation skills, including handler focus work and learning basic commands such as sit, wait & off. He is an intelligent dog who is keen to learn more. Bear would be looking to be the only dog in the household at this time as in his previous home, Bear showed behaviours that suggested he was uncomfortable sharing his owner's attention with other dogs. By being the only dog in the home, Bear can lap up the attention and love without finding himself in a situation he may find challenging. Although Bear cannot live with other dogs, he generally enjoys the company of dogs when out and about. He is a strong boy on lead and can become very bouncy and enthusiastic when he sees other dogs. During his time with us, he has socialised with a variety of dogs and has shown himself to be playful, friendly, and keen to interact. He can sometimes become over-excited and is still learning how to manage his enthusiasm. Once settled, Bear may enjoy walking with calm, well-mannered dogs who can continue to act as a role model and provide positive social experiences. Bear has lived in a home before coming into our care and will need time to fully settle before being expected to spend time alone. In his previous home, he benefitted from a structured routine and quiet rest periods. Since arriving with us, he can struggle with being left alone. New owners should build up any time left alone gradually before leaving him for extended periods of time. Bear is not currently housetrained in kennels; however, he was clean in his previous home. As with many dogs entering a new environment, he may need a little refresher training while he adjusts to his new home and routine. Bear is a friendly and affectionate dog who enjoys interacting with people, although he can sometimes become excited and forget his manners and size. He responds well to guidance and is learning that sitting politely is a great way to earn attention or a treat. One of Bear’s favourite thing are toys, and he often uses them to help himself settle when he's feeling excited. His favourite toy currently is a sturdy ragger toy, which he loves carrying around and throwing about during play. He is happy to entertain himself and can spend time playing independently. While he does enjoy interactive games such as tug, he can lose interest quickly. Bear has shown lovely manners around his toys and is happy to exchange them for another toy or a tasty treat when asked. Bear is a wonderful young dog with lots of potential. He is looking for a committed home that can provide structure, guidance and patience while continuing his training journey. In return, his new owners will gain a fun, affectionate, and enthusiastic companion who loves to learn and be part of family life.
