Onze liefdevolle FeLV-vechter. Mr. White kwam bij ons via ons team van kleine dierendoktoren nadat zijn vorige eigenaar hem had verlaten na een positieve FeLV-test (Felijn leukemie virus). Helaas is dit te vaak het lot van katten op de eiland. Met een wijdverspreid straathondbevolking en laag vaccinatiepraktijk verspreidt FeLV zich gemakkelijk en, omdat het besmettelijk is, worden veel katten met het virus simpelweg geëuthaniseerd. Maar Mr. White had geluk. Hij belandde in de zorg van een van de meest toegewijde katliefhebbers van het eiland die niet accepteerde dat zijn diagnose een doodvonnis zou moeten zijn. BESLOTTEN om hem een veilig thuis te vinden bracht ze hem naar ons en het kon niet beter op tijd zijn. Onze langdurige FeLV-resident, Karen, was onlangs de enige kat geworden in ons aangewezen ziekenhuisruimte na het treurige overlijden van Julius. Mr. White kwam niet alleen met bescherming nodig, maar ook met gezelschap. En naarmate Karen voorzichtig besloot hem te accepteren, ging hij er prachtig in. FeLV kan leiden tot complexe gezondheidsproblemen en Mr. White heeft voortdurende medische behandeling en speciale verzorging nodig, wat duur is. Maar ondanks alles is hij een van de gelukkigste zielen in ons asiel – liefdevol, gespreksdrivelijk en knuffelig, hij is altijd de eerste om je te begroeten, tegen je benen aan krabben zodra je binnenkomt voor verrijking of voeren. Mr. White is levend bewijs dat zelfs dieren met ernstige diagnosen een blij leven kunnen leiden als ze liefde, veiligheid en een kans krijgen. Hij vereist extra zorg, maar geeft veel meer terug - warmte, gezelschap en een herinnering dat elk leven, hoe kwetsbaar ook, waard is van waardigheid en genegenheid. Our Loving FeLV Fighter. Mr. White came to us through our small animal veterinary team after his previous owner abandoned him following a positive FeLV test (Feline leukemia virus). Sadly, this is a far too common fate for cats on the island. With widespread stray populations and low vaccination practices, FeLV spreads easily and, because it is contagious, many cats with the virus are simply euthanised. But Mr. White was fortunate. He landed in the care of one of the island’s most devoted cat-loving vets who refused to accept that his diagnosis should be a death sentence. Determined to find him a safe home, she brought him to us and it couldn’t have been better timing. Our long-term FeLV resident, Karen , had recently become the only cat in our dedicated hospital space after the heartbreaking passing of Julius. Mr. White arrived not just needing sanctuary, but companionship. And after Karen cautiously decided to accept him, he settled in beautifully. FeLV can lead to complex health problems and Mr. White does require ongoing medical treatment and specialised care, which is expensive. But despite all of this, he is one of the happiest souls in our sanctuary – affectionate, chatty, and cuddly, he is always the first to greet you, rubbing against your legs the moment you enter for enrichment or feeding. Mr. White is living proof that even animals with serious diagnoses can live joyful lives when given love, safety, and a chance. He may require extra care, but he gives back far more – warmth, companionship and a reminder that every life, no matter how fragile, is worthy of dignity and affection.
