01-07-26 Nelly, also known as Hippo amongst the kennel staff, is a beautiful girl with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. Nelly came into our care after experiencing a difficult past, having spent much of her life confined to a very small room and sadly being passed between several homes. Despite everything she has been through, her love for people has never faded. She absolutely adores human company and greets everyone she meets like they are her new best friend. Nelly is a typical fun-loving Bulldog girl who is full of character. She loves attention, affection and being involved in everything her people are doing. She enjoys a good play session, especially when there is a ball involved! Tennis balls, footballs, honestly, anything she can throw around will make her happy. She is even learning that dropping the ball means the fun can start all over again. Once playtime is finished, she is just as happy settling down for a well-earned rest. Sadly, the instability Nelly has experienced has left her feeling worried when she is left alone. She can become distressed when separated and will need a home where she is not left for long periods. Her adopters will need to build up time apart gradually, using patience and consistency to help her understand that her people will always return. Nelly is currently learning about other dogs and is not yet comfortable around them. She is doing brilliantly with her muzzle training, which allows her to enjoy her walks safely while she learns that other dogs are not something to worry about. She can enjoy walking alongside calm, quiet dogs, but she may react if she feels overwhelmed, especially with larger dogs or if another dog barks at her first. Her new family will need to continue her muzzle training on walks and support her with positive, patient guidance. Nelly can already walk on a lead, although she is a strong and enthusiastic girl who can pull when excited. She will need adopters who are confident handling her and who are happy to continue her lead training. She loves getting out for walks, having zoomies and exploring, but she is equally happy being a cuddle-loving couch potato afterwards. Nelly has come from a home before, so she may already understand some household routines, but she may need gentle reminders as she settles into a new environment. She will need an adult-only home with breed-experienced adopters who understand her bouncy nature and can provide the boundaries, consistency and love she needs. She will need to be the only dog in the home, with no visiting dogs and no cats. She will also need an extra-secure garden with fencing of at least 6ft+. Nelly is wonderful at the vets and loves the attention she receives there. She enjoys spending time with the staff, soaking up the fuss and showing everyone what a friendly and affectionate girl she is. Nelly is a resilient, loving dog who has been through more than she should have, yet she continues to greet the world with excitement and affection. She is ready for a family who will spoil her, make her feel safe and show her just how wonderful life can be. For lovers of Bulldog breeds, Nelly’s silly personality and loving nature are sure to bring endless joy. *Nelly has been measured by our local Dog Licensing Officer and confirmed that she is not considered a banned breed.
