Our beautiful survivor Persia, with her magical amber eyes, has survived what seemed to be impossible at one moment, and is now looking for her forever home, where she can get chubby happily with her own humans. Persia loves to cuddle and snuggle with humans, she is very smoochy. She is also house-clean, walks really well on the leash, listens to humans perfectly and even reacts on her new name! She loves to be touched, and her favourite thing is belly-rubs. She could lay on her back for hours, enjoying all the attention and care. Persia is also totally fine to spend some time alone and patiently waits for her humans. She is curious about other dogs, and just a little bit shy at first meetings with new dogs. Persia is a mixed-breed girl, most likely a mix between some Alano, some Amstaff, and her shoulder height is approximately 54cm. She is registrated in Spain as Alano, and does not require a PPP registration for adoption in Spain. Persia arrived us in an absolute emergency situation, when two people arrived to the shelter saying that have found a dog a few days earlier, and that they have the pregnant dog in the car. What they did not mention, was that the dog in the car was gasping for air, on the verge of life, and had to be rushed to the animal hospital within minutes. The first night and day of Persia's hospital stay were especially critical, and the veterinary team was not able to determine whether her condition was coming from lungs, heart, or perhaps poisoning, and in the meantime it turned out that indeed she was pregnant. Along the days, a diagnosis was placed -laryngeal paralysis, a condition where larnyx of the throat cannot open and close properly, and blocks the breathing way, so she could not get air and felt like choking at any movement, excitement. During the tests to determine the laryngeal paralysis, her pregnancy had to be terminated as it was still in a very beginning phase and the fetuses would have been severely affected by the heavy medications she was receiving. She was operated successfully to fully open the larnyx to unblock the airways and is now recovering very well in a medical foster home! The possible complication of the condition/procedure is aspiration pneumonia due to food/water potentially moving into the airways in the first period after the operation. Also, the climate will be important for Persia's wellbeing - as she has no "active filter" in her throat to block cold or hot air, she would not be able to live in climates where the air temperature gets extremely cold, as the cold air would enter her lungs and she could get sick. Ideally, Persia's new home would be located here in Spain, whereas her family would keep her safe in mild interior temperatures in the few extreme heat summer months. Persia does not take any medication and her care at the moment only consist of slow feeding and making sure she does not get over-excited, to keep breathing peacefully. Persia is very cheerful, happy, thankful and loving and now we are looking for her forever humans, who are not able to live without this incredible survivor on their sides, to share the sofa and peaceful nature walks together. Even though Persia is lovely with all humans, then for the time being we wish for a home without small children for Persia, just to make sure the excitement level in the home is not overly high.
