Loki’s special background—having been isolated in his chain with no contact with the outside world—caused him to turn inward. After all, no one cared about him, and he had nothing to do. When he first arrived at the enclosure, it was difficult to reach out to him, but gradually he began to realize that he actually does have feelings—and that those feelings are respected.
