Bibi came to us as a found dog at the animal shelter. After the owner was located, it turned out that she still had a second female dog (Emmy). The authorities ruled that both female dogs should remain at the animal shelter, as the owner was unable to properly care for them. She had loved them very much and thought they were well, but she was hopelessly overwhelmed with the two anxious hounds. Both female dogs are noticeably insecure in environmental stimuli. They seem not to have much socialization and do not know how to walk. At first, they clung to each other like twins, especially Bibi never strayed from her friend. Bibi originally came from Romania, and life as a street dog had left its mark. Upon her arrival, she only approached people with extreme caution and was extremely fearful, nervous, and anxious. She could not be without Emmy and immediately panicked when Emmy was out of sight. For weeks, the two could not leave the premises, but over time, they thawed out, and now Bibi has made a 180-degree turn. She not only shed weight (she was significantly overweight), but she has also become more assertive. When she builds trust, she is highly attuned to people and is overjoyed when her trusted people pick her up for a walk. She is still a bit excited on the leash, but not just out of panic anymore. She still runs around uncontrolled and bounces a little, which can lead to stepping on her, but she now handles that without a panic attack. Loud noises, like fireworks or traffic, still cause her great fear. The more Bibi thawed out, the more her jealousy towards Emmy and other fellow animals became apparent. She pushes herself to the forefront, claims her "own" person for herself, and makes it clear. On walks or in the run, she likes to bark at other dogs and wants to make space for herself. Overall, she is very communicative and impatient. Training is still needed to help her understand that she does not decide over "her" person. With her trusted people, she can also settle down and enjoy extensive cuddles, but she also needs to learn and accept boundaries. Due to her ongoing insecurity towards strangers, we do not want to place her in a household with small children. Whether a confident male dog would work would need to be tested during a longer trial period. As a single dog, she would be better off. Even though she has made great progress, she remains a fearful and insecure female dog that requires further work, but we are confident that she can become a faithful companion. Bibi kam als Fundhund zu uns ins Tierheim. Nachdem die Besitzerin ausfindig gemacht worden war, stellte sich heraus, dass diese noch ein zweite Hündin (Emmy) hatte. Das Amt verfügte, dass beide Hündinnen im Tierheim bleiben sollen, da die Besitzerin nicht in der Lage war, sich angemessen um sie zu kümmern. Sie hat die beiden sehr lieb gehabt und meinte es gut, doch sie war heillos überfordert mit den beiden Angsthündinnen. Beide Hündinnen sind auffällig unsicher bei Umweltreizen. Sie scheinen nicht viel kennengelernt zu haben und kennen es auch nicht, spazieren zu gehen. Anfangs klebten sie aneinander wie Zwillinge, vor allem Bibi wich ihrer Freundin nicht von der Seite. Bibi kommt ursprünglich aus Rumänien und das Leben als Straßenhund hat seine Spuren hinterlassen. Bei ihrer Ankunft suchte sie nur äußerst vorsichtig den Kontakt zu Menschen und war extrem schreckhaft, nervös und ängstlich. Sie konnte nicht ohne Emmy sein und verfiel sofort in Panik, wenn Emmy nicht mehr in Sichtweite war. Wochenlang konnten die beiden nicht das Gelände verlassen, doch nach und nach tauten sie auf und mittlerweile hat Bibi eine 180 Grad-Wendung hingelegt. Sie hat nicht nur abgespeckt (sie war deutlich übergewichtig), sie ist nun auch richtig vorwitzig geworden. Wenn sie Vertrauen aufgebaut hat, orientiert sie sich stark am Menschen und freut sich riesig, wenn ihre Bezugspersonen sie zum Gassi abholen. An der Leine ist sie immer noch aufgeregt, aber nicht mehr nur aus Panik. Sie läuft noch unkontrolliert und tänzelt immer ein wenig herum, was dazu führt, dass man ihr schon mal auf die Füße tritt, doch auch das verkraftet sie mittlerweile ohne Panikattacke. Laute Geräusche, wie Böller oder Verkehrslärm, bereiten ihr aber immer noch große Angst. Je mehr Bibi auftaute, desto deutlicher wurde ihre Eifersucht gegenüber Emmy und anderen Artgenossen. Sie drängt sich regelrecht in den Vordergrund, beansprucht „ihren“ Menschen für sich und macht das auch deutlich. Auf dem Spaziergang oder im Zwinger pöbelt sie gerne andere Hunde an und möchte sich dadurch Platz verschaffen. Insgesamt ist sie sehr mitteilungsbedürftig und ungeduldig. Hier bedarf es noch an Training, damit sie versteht, dass sie nicht über „ihren“ Menschen entscheidet. Bei ihren Bezugspersonen kann sie auch zur Ruhe kommen und genießt ausgiebige Streicheleinheiten, doch auch hier muss sie Grenzen erlernen und annehmen. Aufgrund ihrer weiterhin bestehenden Unsicherheit gegenüber allem Fremden, möchten wir sie nicht in einen Haushalt mit kleinen Kindern vermitteln. Ob es mit einem souveränen Rüden funktioniert, müsste man während einer längeren Kennenlernphase ausprobieren. Als Einzelhund wäre sie jedoch besser aufgehoben. Auch wenn sie schon große Fortschritte gemacht hat, bleibt sie eine ängstliche und unsichere Hündin, mit der man weiterarbeiten muss, aber wir sind uns sicher, dass sie eine treue Begleiterin werden kann.
