Athena, named after the goddess of wisdom and quiet strength, is living up to her name in the saddest way-she survives, she endures, but she is not yet living. In the busy sanctuary environment, Athena has shut down. She spends much of her time withdrawn, avoiding interaction, overwhelmed by the noise and the movements. Where another cat might adapt, Athena retreats. Each day here feels like too much for her sensitive soul. But we know there is more to Athena than this. We see flickers-small but powerful. Once she starts getting familiar with people, we see a moment where fear loosens its grip, and the real Athena dares to peek through.
