Athos est un chien très proche de l'homme, pour qui la présence humaine est essentielle au point de pouvoir parfois fuguer pour la rejoindre. Un jardin bien clos sera donc indispensable pour assurer sa sécurité. Sociable, il s'entend bien avec les chats comme avec les chevaux, et apprécie tout particulièrement la compagnie de ses congénères canins.
