In the Cosoban area, there was hardly any help for homeless dogs before Adina's farm. Therefore, information about the shelter kennel has spread quickly, and locals know well where to take dogs in need of help. For the dogs, access to the shelter kennel is a lottery win, but for Adina, who constantly stretches her resources to the limit, the continuous flood of new dogs is a difficult situation. Being a kind-hearted person, she rarely refuses to help, and therefore dogs keep arriving at the shelter kennel continuously. When there are hundreds of dogs and new puppies and those needing care keep arriving constantly, individuals easily get lost in the crowd. This has also happened to Dumle. No one at the shelter kennel remembers how he originally ended up at the shelter kennel. Dumle is like so many others from the hundreds of puppies that have grown up at the shelter kennel. He has almost no experience, so everything new and different excites him. Dumle does not voluntarily approach strangers, but he does watch them curiously from a small distance. He is the least shy from the group of timid dogs, and after a short time in the kennel, Dumle confidently eats the treats thrown on the ground. With the treats, Dumle gains enough confidence not to go between the cages to seek courage from other dog friends, but instead stays waiting for more treats near the person. Dumle gets along nicely with the other dogs at the shelter kennel and seems at least in the farm conditions to be unnoticed and quiet.

Cosoban alueella ei ennen Adinan tarhaa ollut juuri mitään apua kodittomille koirille. Niinpä tieto tarhasta on levinnyt nopeasti ja paikalliset tietävät hyvin, mihin apua tarvitsevia koiria voi viedä. Koirien kannalta pääsy tarhalle on lottovoitto, mutta jatkuvasti äärimmilleen venytetyillä resursseilla selviytyvälle Adinalle jatkuva tulva uusia koiria on vaikea paikka. Hyväsydämisenä ihmisenä hän ei kuitenkaan juuri koskaan kieltäydy auttamasta ja niinpä koiria päätyy tarhalle jatkuvasti lisää. Kun koiria on satoja ja uusia pentuja ja huolehdittavia tulee jatkuvasti lisää, hukkuvat yksilöt herkästi massaan. Niin on käynyt myös Dumlen kohdalla. Kukaan tarhalla ei enää muista, miten hän on alunperin päätynyt tarhalle. Dumle on kuten niin moni muukin sadoista tarhalla kasvaneista pennuista. Hänellä ei ole juuri lainkaan kokemuksia ja niinpä kaikki uusi ja erilainen jännittää häntä. Dumle ei vapaaehtoisesti lähesty vieraita, mutta tarkkailee kyllä uteliaana pienen välimatkan päästä heidän touhujaan. Hän onkin ujosta häkkiporukasta vähiten arka ja jo hetken häkissä oleskelun jälkeen Dumle käy rohkeasti syömässä maahan heitettyjä herkkuja. Herkkujen avulla Dumle rohkaistuu sen verran, ettei enää halua käydä välissä kopissa hakemassa rohkeutta muilta koirakavereiltaan, vaan jää odottelemaan ihmisen lähelle lisää herkkuja. Dumle tulee tarhalla hienosti toimeen muiden koirien kanssa ja hän vaikuttaa olevan ainakin tarhaoloissa hyvin huomaamaton ja hiljainen.
