Gandalf is a senior dog who ended up at the shelter in very poor condition. He was found on Szczecińska Street in Słupsk in the middle of the night in June 2026. A huge testicular tumor, a growth-like lesion on his cheek, claws overgrown to the point of being almost unmanageable, decayed teeth, and parasites—these were just some of the conditions that were immediately apparent upon examination. We worried that such a sick old dog wouldn't adjust well to life at the shelter. Yet, just two days after arriving, Gandalf underwent the necessary surgery to remove the testicular tumor and the growth-like lesion on his cheek. He was started on medication for external parasites, given highly nutritious food, and placed on a soft bed in an isolation room. Day by day, he began to feel better and better—eagerly going for short walks, socializing with other dogs and cats, and curiously accompanying the shelter staff during their daily tasks. Unfortunately, in the meantime, during a visit to a cardiologist, he was diagnosed with a severe heart condition—a disease that had been neglected throughout his previous years of life. Despite these health issues, the little dog remains cheerful and full of joy. We’re so glad that, even if only for a short time, we can finally give him what he’s long deserved: warmth, a soft bed, good food, and veterinary care. Gandalf to psi senior, który trafił do schroniska w bardzo złym stanie. Znaleziony na ulicy Szczecińskiej w Słupsku w środku nocy w czerwcu 2026. Ogromny guz jądra, zmiana rozrostowa na policzku, pazury poprzerastane do granic możliwości, zepsute zęby, pasożyty – to tylko część z jego schorzeń, które stwierdzić można było już na pierwszy rzut oka. Baliśmy się, że taki schorowany staruszek nie odnajdzie się w schronisku. Gandalf już po dwóch dniach przeszedł niezbędny zabieg usunięcia guza jądra oraz zmiany rozrostowej policzka. Wdrożono leki na pasożyty zewnętrzne, podawano mu wysokomięsną karmę, zamieszkał na miękkim posłaniu w izolatce i z dnia na dzień czuł się coraz lepiej – z chęcią wychodził na krótkie spacery, socjalizował się z innymi psami i kotami, z ciekawością towarzyszył schroniskowym opiekunom podczas ich prac. Niestety w międzyczasie, podczas wizyty u specjalisty kardiologa, zdiagnozowana została u niego ciężka choroba serca – zaniedbana w poprzednich latach życia Pomimo opisanych schorzeń piesek jest radosny. Cieszymy się, że chociaż na ostatnie chwile możemy zapewnić mu to, na co zasłużył już dawno – ciepło, miękkie posłanie, dobrą karmę oraz opiekę weterynaryjną. Bądź z nami Gandalfie jak najdłużej!
