Cocaine, Arabian horse, female, born on 15/06/1995 (30 years and 11 months old), arrived at our shelter on 03/03/2010 following a seizure by authorities on the territory of the commune of Gouvy, organized by SRPA of Liège and the Federal Public Service for Animal Welfare. Cocaine was the only survivor of this seizure by authorities. The poor mare was in a stall, abandoned by her owner, there was no bedding, the floor was covered with excrement and 5 cm of water. There was also a dead horse thrown into a hole dug to bury it as well as two dead horses in their stalls. Another horse was dying in its stall and had to be euthanized on site. Cocaine showed an advanced state of malnutrition with generalized muscle wasting as well as neurological disorders accompanied by severe ataxia in all four limbs. She received all our attention and we had to be patient in order to regain her trust in humans. Since then she has regained her strength and is living happy days in her straw-filled stall and the meadow, a 5 star rating for this poor mare. La pauvre jument se trouvait dans un box, laissée à l'abandon par son propriétaire, il n y avait plus de litière, le sol étant jonché d'excréments et recouvert de 5 cm d'eau. Il y avait également un cheval mort, jeté dans un trou creusé pour l'enterrer ainsi que deux chevaux morts dans leur box. Un autre cheval agonisait dans son box et qu'il a fallu euthanasier sur place. Cocaïne présentait un état de malnutrition avancée avec fonte musculaire généralisée ainsi que des troubles neurologiques accompagnés d'ataxie sévère des 4 membres. Elle a été l'objet de toute notre attention et nous avons dû nous armer de patience afin de lui redonner confiance en l'homme. Depuis elle a repris des forces et coule des jours heureux entre son box paillé et la prairie, un 5 étoiles pour cette pauvre jument.
