Adopt Emrys
Collie · Macho · Adulto · 4 anos
Emrys is currently in foster care and looking for an experienced, understanding forever home, a second chance for a brilliant but misunderstood Collie. Emrys came to us from a farm. He was young, vulnerable, and completely overwhelmed when he first arrived, as so many working Collies are when their world turns upside down. With no history, we could only judge him by what we saw. And what we saw was a bright, sensitive dog who found the chaos of a rescue kennel absolutely terrifying. Thankfully, a kind and knowledgeable Collie experienced fosterer stepped forward. In their calm and structured home, Emrys began to thrive. He stayed with them for six weeks or so enjoying long walks, plenty of enrichment, and the steady, respectful approach that working Collies truly need. There were no confrontations, no worries, just progress and peace. But Emrys wasn’t there to stay. He was only passing through on his way to what we hoped would be his forever home. Sadly, that next chapter didn’t go to plan. After several weeks in a new home, Emrys reacted negatively to the owner’s visiting adult son-in-law. He displayed reactive behaviour and later redirected onto a behaviourist when restrained on a lead. Following this incident, the behaviourist recommended that euthanasia be considered. But his original Fosterer couldn’t give up on him. His original foster welcomed him back, and to this day, he has never shown a single sign of aggression or resource guarding with them or with regular visitors and he gets on well amazingly with the resident dogs in the home. The other resident dogs keep him occupied and we believe this really benefits him. In their care, he continues to flourish. He’s happy, safe, and very much loved. They manage him carefully, understand his boundaries, and give him the active lifestyle and thoughtful leadership he needs. Emrys is not a beginner’s dog. He is an intelligent, driven Collie who needs clear structure, exercise, and a handler who respects the way his brain works. Many farm-bred Collies don’t transition easily to domestic life, they need understanding, not punishment. They can become overwhelmed, fearful, or reactive when their needs are ignored, or simply not recognized. With the right person, Emrys will shine. He deserves a home that offers: A calm, adult-only environment. Consistent, structured handling. Time, patience, and zero pressure However plenty of challenges. Work needs to be play for him, enjoyable fun where he is learning, he will then love his lessons respecting and looking up to humans for his next task, whether that’s obedience, flyball, canicross, agility, search and recovery - just some thing to engage his brain. Someone experienced with Collie behaviour. A secure home with limited foot traffic and not a lot of goings-on. He will need to continue the use of a muzzle in public as a precaution, (though he has never shown any aggression while out walking with his fosters). We are not trying to hide his history however we are also not writing him off for one reaction, in one moment, under pressure. Dogs deserve better than that. Emrys has proved himself safe and stable in a well-managed foster home. With the right person, we know he can have a good life. If you’ve worked with Collies before, if you believe in second chances, and if you think you could be the steady, experienced home that Emrys needs please get in touch. He’s a brilliant boy, and he’s waiting. To give Emrys the best chance of finding the perfect home, we are happy to waive the standard adoption fee and instead welcome a donation of any amount you feel comfortable with. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.
