I am Tom – a tomcat with character, opinion, and a voice I like to use. Yes, I am a tomcat. A male specimen. And I know what you’re thinking: men don’t talk that much. Well, I do. But only if someone is listening. I don’t hold monologues when I’m alone – that would be silly. But when you’re around, it starts. I comment on your steps, complain about empty bowls, or tell you what the day has brought (or should have brought, if you’re deviating from my plan). I am also a talkative companion – but not pushy. A pleasant conversation partner with fluffy fur and a rather charming look. To that, I add: I am unbelievably cuddly. As soon as you settle down, I do too – right by your side, on your lap, or with my head on your hand. I am there when you need me – and even when you think you don’t need me right now. But believe me: you do. With other cats, I’m not that social. I’m the type of solitary prince. That means: a tomcat, a human (or group), a couch – that’s it. I don’t need anything more. Not even furry roommates who interrupt with a meow. At feeding time, I’m relaxed. Of course, I like to eat, but I’m not a vacuum cleaner on four legs. As long as it comes on time, then the world is in order – and I might not talk as much either. Maybe. If you’re looking for a conversation partner with a vibrissal function – one who knows exactly what they want and can express it charmingly – then I am your Tom. And I had this feeling we had something to say to each other.

Ich bin Tom – ein Kater mit Charakter, Meinung und einer Stimme, die ich gern einsetze. Ja, ich bin ein Kater. Ein männliches Exemplar. Und ich weiß, was du jetzt denkst: Männer reden doch nicht so viel. Tja, ich schon. Aber nur, wenn jemand zuhört. Ich halte keine Selbstgespräche, wenn ich allein bin – das wär ja albern. Aber wann bist du da? Da geht's los. Ich kommentiere deine Schritte, beschwere mich über leere Näpfe oder erzähle dir, was der Tag so gebracht hat (oder bringen sollte, fällt du gerade abweichst von meinem Plan). Ich bin auch gesprächig – aber nicht aufdringlich. Ein angenehmer Gesprächspartner mit flauschigem Fell und ziemlich charmantem Blick. Dazu kommt: Ich bin unfassbar verschmust. Sobald du zur Ruhe kommst, tu ich das auch – direkt an deiner Seite, auf deinem Schoß oder mit dem Kopf an deiner Hand. Ich bin da, wenn du mich brauchst – und auch wenn du denkst, du brauchst mich grad nicht. Aber glaub mir: Du tust es. Mit anderen Katzen hab ich's nicht so. Ich bin der Typ Einzelprinz. Das heißt: ein Kater, ein Mensch(enrudel), eine Couch – fertig. Mehr brauch ich nicht. Schon gar keine pelzigen Mitbewohner, der mir dazwischen miaut. Beim Futter bin ich entspannt. Klar ess ich gern, aber ich bin kein Staubsauger auf vier Pfoten. Hauptsache, es kommt pünktlich, dann ist die Welt in Ordnung – und ich rede auch nicht mehr ganz so viel. Vielleicht. Wenn du auch einen Gesprächspartner mit Schnurrfunktion suchst – einen, der genau weiß, was er will, und das auch charmant mitteilt – dann bin ich dein Tom. Und ich hatte da so das Gefühl, wir hätten uns was zu sagen.
