A couple driving by the shelter saw a dog lying on the road and thought it had been hit by a car. They put it in their car and went to ask for help from Milu. Soon after, a lady came to complain that this dog had caused a lot of damage in her garden and had "scared her away." She didn't explain how! The HORTA must have been shot because the poor animal was full of bullets, as later revealed by the X-rays. The wounds were very bad, infected, and smelled really badly. The dog wouldn't have survived much longer on the street. Cruelty has no limits. The HORTA was hospitalized for a long time to heal those wounds, but fortunately, he got better. He is now at the Cantinho. The HORTA is scared. He is afraid of everything and everyone. Months later, he now accepts our touch, but he still has fear. It's heartbreaking. Despite the fear that overwhelms him, he never tried to bite. He is a sweet dog. He is sociable with other dogs, submissive even. He doesn't like noise. He prefers to stay in quieter places. We believe that a home with the company of another balanced dog will be beneficial for him. Interestingly, he walks well on a leash, which makes us think that at some point in his life, he must have had a home.

Um casal que passava de carro perto do abrigo, viu um cão deitado no chão à beira da estrada e pensou que tinha sido atropelado. Colocou-o no carro e foi pedir ajuda à Milu. Pouco depois apareceu uma senhora a reclamar que esse cão lhe tinha causado muitos estragos nas hortas e que o "afugentou". Não explicou foi como! O Horta deve ter sido corrido a tiro pois o pobre animal estava cheio de chumbos, conforme revelaram mais tarde os raios X. As feridas eram muito feias, estavam infetadas e cheiravam muito mal. O cão não teria sobrevivido muito mais tempo na rua. A crueldade não tem limites. O Horta esteve internado muito tempo, a curar essas feridas, mas felizmente ficou bem. Está agora no Cantinho. O Horta está assustado. Tem medo de tudo e todos. Meses depois, já aceita o nosso toque, mas continua com medo. É de cortar o coração. Apesar do medo que o invade, ele nunca tentou morder. É um cão doce. É sociável com outros cães, submisso até. Não gosta de confusão. Prefere resguardar-se em locais mais calmos. Acreditamos que um lar com a companhia de outro cão equilibrado será benéfico para ele. Curiosamente ele anda muito bem de trela, o que nos deixa pensar que a certa altura da sua vida, ele terá tido um lar.
