Mao is a wonderful Staffordshire bull terrier. He came to us via the police after his owner left him there because he could not handle Mao and was scared of him. Mao turned out to be a dog that has been passed around and has had at least 5 different owners... We fear that these were not the best owners, because Mao has clearly experienced some things. At first he was extremely distant and did not want much to do with us, it took some time before we could convince him that not everyone has bad intentions. Meanwhile, he already has some people he respects, but that takes some time. He is a dog with a strong character who likes to get his way and if he does not respect you, he may dare to act out. Unfortunately, we have no background information, but as far as we know, he lived in a house. Mao enjoys playing with sturdy toys, but here too, care must be taken that his energy level does not get too high, otherwise he becomes overstimulated and then he may do something destructive. Walking with this handsome fellow is a delight, he walks nicely on a leash and ignores others, he also enjoys jogging. Mao needs a lot of structure and clear boundaries, an owner who has experience with strong characters is therefore an absolute must! Mao is not placed with children or other dogs or cats. We know it will not be easy to find the perfect owner for him, but he is trying so hard and has come from so far. Mao is een prachtige Stafford kerel die via de politie bij ons terechtkwam nadat zijn baasje hem achterliet omdat hij hem niet aankon en schrik van hem had. Mao bleek helaas een doorgeefhond te zijn en zou al minstens vijf verschillende eigenaars hebben gehad. We weten niet alles over zijn verleden, maar het is duidelijk dat deze knappe jongen al heel wat heeft meegemaakt. Toen Mao bij ons aankwam, was hij erg afstandelijk. Hij had tijd nodig om te leren dat niet iedereen slechte bedoelingen heeft. Ondertussen heeft hij enkele vaste personen die hij vertrouwt en respecteert. Bij hen laat hij zien dat er achter zijn stoere uiterlijk een hond zit die graag rust, duidelijkheid en voorspelbaarheid heeft. Mao is een hond met een sterk karakter. Hij heeft nood aan iemand die stevig in zijn schoenen staat, ervaring heeft met sterke honden en hem duidelijke grenzen kan geven. Wanneer hij iemand niet respecteert of wanneer hij te veel spanning opbouwt, kan hij durven uithalen. Daarom is een consequente, rustige aanpak heel belangrijk. Mao geniet enorm van zijn rust en ruimte. Hij hoeft geen druk leven vol prikkels, maar wel een stabiele omgeving waar hij weet waar hij aan toe is. Wandelen met Mao is heerlijk: hij loopt netjes aan de lijn, negeert andere Spelen doet hij graag met stevig speelgoed, al moet ook daarbij bewaakt worden dat zijn energielevel niet te hoog oploopt, zodat hij niet overprikkeld raakt. Voor Mao zoeken we een ervaren thuis zonder kinderen, honden of katten. Een plek waar hij niet overvraagd wordt, maar waar men hem wel de juiste structuur, grenzen en begeleiding biedt. Mao is de hond die al het langst in ons asiel verblijft. We hopen zo hard dat ook hij eindelijk zijn thuis mag vinden. Hij heeft al een hele weg afgelegd en doet echt zijn best. Het zal misschien niet de makkelijkste zoektocht zijn, maar voor de juiste persoon kan Mao een geweldige hond worden. Deze bijzondere jongen verdient zo hard een gouden mandje waar hij eindelijk mag thuiskomen.
