She was given to an elderly person who could not take her out; for her first three years, she only knew the garden for going to the bathroom and the inside of the house. She developed strong resource guarding towards her owner and over time it became impossible to enter the house without Patou trying to bite. A behavioral assessment was done upon Patou's arrival at the association, in one of our foster homes, revealing that this behavior was due to the lifestyle imposed on her, and the fear of the outside that she did not know. Patou has made great progress in her foster home; now she goes out regularly for walks and meets people. She lives with two other borders and a cat. She is not mean to the cat but when it is there, nothing else exists for her, she no longer obeys at all. She has kept a trauma that makes her panic when someone she doesn't know arrives, and she might bite. It is necessary to work around her fears by putting her in a room while welcoming the person and when she comes back and everyone is talking, she forgets about it. She can walk with other dogs, but becomes stressed when there is too much movement. In fact, after spending three years in absolute calm, Patou loses control when there is too much movement around her. That is why it is better to avoid children. She is a dog with a great need for activities, the flock seems to appeal to her, but with a muzzle to prevent her from nipping the sheep. The classes and the commotion during obedience training sessions are a major source of stress for her, and she needs close supervision. Story Patou is unfortunately a dog given to an elderly person who had no knowledge of the needs of a border collie. Three years spent under these conditions have shaped her character. Her stay in a foster home allowed her to make great progress, but she still has fears and needs a lot of calm. WHAT HOME FOR PATOU? Our little Patou would need a stable and balanced home, familiar with canine codes. A life in the countryside, without children and away from noise would suit her perfectly. Patou will need daily walks and mental activity, she won't stay all day doing nothing. The flock could be a path to explore as she is triggered by it. Elle a été offerte à une personne âgée qui ne pouvait pas la sortir ; pendant ses trois premières années elle n’a connu que le jardin pour faire ses besoins et l intérieur de la maison. Elle a développé de très fortes protections de ressources sur sa maîtresse et à la longue il devenait impossible de rentrer dans la maison sans que Patou ne cherche à mordre. Un bilan comportemental a été fait à l arrivée de Patou au sein de l association, dans une de nos familles d accueil, révélant que ce comportement était dû au mode de vie qui lui était imposé, et à la crainte de l extérieur qu elle ne connaissait pas. Patou a beaucoup évolué dans sa famille d accueil ; à présent elle sort régulièrement en balade, et voit du monde. Elle vit avec deux autres borders et un chat. Elle n est pas méchante envers le chat mais quand il est là rien d autre n existe pour elle, elle n obeit plus du tout. Elle a gardé un traumatisme qui fait que quand quelqu un arrive qu elle ne connaît pas, elle est prise de panique et pourrait mordre. Il faut contourner ses peurs en l enfermant dans une pièce le temps d accueillir la personne et quand elle revient et que tout le monde discute elle n y pense plus. Elle peut se promener avec d autres chiens, mais monte en pression dès que ça bouge trop. En fait, après avoir passé 3 ans dans un calme absolu, Patou ne se contrôle plus quand il y a trop de mouvement autour d elle. C est pourquoi il vaut mieux éviter les enfants. C est une chienne qui a un grand besoin d activités, le troupeau semble lui plaire, mais avec une muselière pour lui éviter de pincer les brebis. Les cours et l agitation qui règnent lors des séances de dressage sont pour elle une grosse source de stress, et il est nécessaire de la surveiller de près. HistoirePatou est malheureusement une chienne offerte à une personne âgée, qui n avait aucune connaissance des besoins d un border collie. Trois ans passés dans ces conditions ont marqué son caractère. Son séjour en famille d accueil lui a permis de bien évoluer, mais elle garde des craintes en elle, et a besoin de beaucoup de calme. QUEL FOYER POUR PATOU ? Notre petite Patou aurait besoin d un foyer stable et équilibré, connaissant bien les codes canins. Une vie à la campagne, sans enfants et loin du bruit lui conviendrait parfaitement. Il faudra à patou des balades quotidiennes et de l activité mentale, elle ne restera pas toute une journée sans rien faire. Le troupeau peut être une piste à poursuivre car elle y est déclenchée.
