Ben je střední velikosti (nadváhový) mix věku okolo sedmi až osmi let. Nezajímá ho kočka. Potřebuje přítomného psa. Dospělá rodina Ben byl na seznamu smrti ve veřejném štěstěnici v Rumunsku, když paní z Velké Británie nabídla, že si ho vezme. Bohužel Ben byl nešlechtěný a paní nebyla připravena ani zkušená dostatečně, aby se postarala o jeho rehabilitaci a tak nás požádali, abychom šli pro něj a začali s tímto cestou spolu. Trvalo několik měsíců, ale Ben je nyní připraven na další krok. Stále má nepříjemnou zvětšenou návyk, kousat svůj vodítko, pokud není pečlivě sledován, proto metalické vodítko na obrázcích! Kromě toho se vlastně stává milým starým chlapcem, který začal i neformálně žádat pozornost a láskavé ruce. Jeho láska ke stravě pomáhá získat jeho důvěru a sebevědomí, ale brzy bude potřeba upravit jeho stravu a cvičení. To bude sekundární k tomu, aby se stal přítelem. Ben dobře komunikuje s jinými psy a bude potřebovat alespoň jednoho dalšího psa v jeho trvalém domě. Moc se nezajímá o kočku. Bude potřebovat někoho trpělivého, aby získal jeho důvěru, ale po několika týdnech má potenciál být směšným a laskavým společníkem. V tomto okamžiku bude třeba udělat úsilí, abychom získali pás, který si určitě jednou měl. Pokud máte rádi psi s trochou charakteru a uznáváte trochu odporu, pak je Ben ten pravý. Nebude vás milovat okamžitě, ale budete se těšit výzvě získat tento bod s ním a vážit si svazku ještě více. Bude potřebovat dospělou rodinu s někým s rozumným stupněm zkušeností. Starší psi (10+ let): 150–250 GBP (závisí na věku a individuálních potřebách). Podmínky a podmínky adopce Když adopujete psa ze Safe Rescue, musíte použít bezpečnostní vodítko. To vám zachrání psa: váš nový pes bude nervózní a nevěří vám a nebudete znát situace, které by mohly vašeho psa rozrušit. Pokud se váš pes vystraší, pak bezpečnostní vodítko je jediný způsob, jak zabránit výběhu psa (mnoho psů může uniknout z krku a/nebo paseky). Bude trvat minimálně 3-6 měsíců, než se pes zvykne a dokonale znáte svého psa (delší pro nervózní psy). Bezpečnostní vodítko musí být vždy použito během tohoto období zvykání. I poté, co se pes zvykne, je nejbezpečnější použít bezpečnostní vodítko v situacích, kde může pes být zmatený (např. návštěva nových míst, kolem cizích lidí, u veterináře), a situacích, kde mohou dojít k neočekávaným stimulům (např. kolem ohňostrojů). Nervózní psi mohou vždy nosit bezpečnostní vodítko jako záložní bezpečnostní opatření. Bezpečnostní vodítko je bezpečnostní zařízení a nikdy nesmí být použito jako nástroj tréninku. Použití vodítka k aplikaci tlaku na hrdlo psa je poškozující. Pokud váš pes táhne vodítko, můžeme vám poradit s metodami tréninku, které zabrání škodě. Jakmile se pes zvykne, možná budete chtít zvážit použití paseky (spolu s bezpečnostním vodítkem), pokud pes bude považovat za vhodné být dotýkán, když je umístěna. Většina pasek není úniku odolná, ale paseky se řemínkem za žebrami (např. Ruffwear Webmaster nebo Perfect Fit paseky) jsou bezpečnější. Retraktovatelná / prodlužovací vodítka nesmí být použita na naše psy. Adopce psy musí být vybrány z ochranného střediska a dopraveny rovnou domů v bezpečném kovovém kotli. Adult family Ben was on a kill list at a public shelter in Romania when a lady in the UK offered to take him. Unfortunately Ben was unhandled and the lady was not prepared or experienced enough to cope with his rehabilitation and so we were asked to go and get him and enter upon that journey with him. It’s taken several months but Ben is now ready to move on. He still has the annoying habit of chewing through his lead if not watched carefully hence the metal lead in the pics! Other than that he’s actually emerging into a sweet old boy who has even begun to casually ask for fuss and attention. His love for food helps to win his trust and confidence but at some time soon his diet and exercise regime are going to have to be addressed. This will be secondary to becoming friends tho. Ben mixes well with other dogs and would like at least one other dog in his forever home. He really can’t be bothered with the cat. He will need someone patient to win his trust but after a few weeks he has the potential to be a comical and loving companion. At this point effort will need to be made to retrieve the waistline I’m sure he once had. If you like a dog with a bit of quirk and character and appreciate a little stubbornness chucked into the mix for good measure then Ben is the boy for you. He won’t love you overnight but you’ll enjoy the challenge of getting to that point with him and treasure the bond even more. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a secure metal crate.
