Ben è un incrocio di media taglia (sovrappeso) con circa sette o otto anni. Non si preoccupa del gatto. Ha bisogno di un cane convivente. Famiglia adulta Ben era in lista di eliminazione in un rifugio pubblico in Romania quando una signora nel Regno Unito ha offerto di prenderlo. Purtroppo Ben non era addestrato e la signora non era preparata o sufficientemente esperta per gestire la sua riabilitazione e quindi ci hanno chiesto di andare a prenderlo e intraprendere quel percorso con lui. Sono passati diversi mesi ma ora Ben è pronto a proseguire. Ha ancora l'abitudine fastidiosa di mordere la sua guinzaglio se non viene sorvegliato attentamente, per cui c'è il guinzaglio in metallo nelle foto! A parte questo sta emergendo come un dolce vecchio ragazzo che ha iniziato persino a chiedere casualmente attenzione e coccole. Il suo amore per il cibo aiuta a guadagnare la sua fiducia e sicurezza ma presto dovrà essere affrontato il suo regime alimentare ed esercizio. Questo sarà secondario rispetto a diventare amici. Ben si intende bene con altri cani e vorrebbe almeno un altro cane nella sua casa definitiva. Non si preoccupa veramente del gatto. Avrà bisogno di qualcuno paziente per guadagnare la sua fiducia ma dopo alcune settimane ha il potenziale per essere un compagno divertente e tenero. A questo punto dovrà essere fatta una certa fatica per recuperare la vita che è sicuramente stata sua in precedenza. Se ti piace un cane con un po' di carattere e personalità e apprezzate una certa testardaggine aggiunta per buona misura allora Ben è il ragazzo giusto per te. Lui non ti amerà subito ma godrai della sfida di arrivare a quel punto con lui e apprezzerai ancora di più il legame. Avrà bisogno di una famiglia adulta con qualcuno con un livello ragionevole di esperienza. Ben è stato in affidamento a Mattishall Norfolk. Le quote di adozione sono: Cuccioli già castrati e tutti i cani adulti: £430. Cuccioli non castrati con contratti di sterilizzazione: £530 (riceverai un rimborso di £100 una volta che ci invierai la prova della sterilizzazione). Cani anziani (10+ anni): £150–£250 (in base all'età e alle esigenze individuali). Termini e condizioni di adozione Quando adotti un cane di Safe Rescue, DEVI utilizzare un guinzaglio a scorrimento. Questo terrà il tuo cane al sicuro: il tuo nuovo cane sarà nervoso e non ti farà fiducia, e tu non saprai quali situazioni potrebbero agitarlo. Se il tuo cane si spaventa, allora il guinzaglio a scorrimento è l'unica via per evitare che scappi (molti cani possono scappare da collare e/o finimenti). Occorreranno ALMENO 3-6 mesi perché il tuo cane si abitui e tu lo conosca pienamente (più a lungo per i cani nervosi). Il guinzaglio a scorrimento deve essere SEMPRE utilizzato durante il periodo di adattamento. Anche dopo che il tuo cane si è abituato, è più sicuro utilizzare il guinzaglio a scorrimento in situazioni dove il cane potrebbe spaventarsi (es. visitare posti nuovi, intorno a persone sconosciute, dal veterinario), e in situazioni dove potrebbero esserci trigger imprevisti (es. intorno al 31 luglio). I cani nervosi potranno sempre indossare il guinzaglio a scorrimento come misura di sicurezza supplementare. Il guinzaglio a scorrimento è un dispositivo di sicurezza e mai deve essere utilizzato come strumento di addestramento. Utilizzarlo per applicare pressione sul collo del cane è dannoso. Se il tuo cane tira il guinzaglio, possiamo consigliarti metodi di addestramento che non causano danno. Una volta che il tuo cane si è abituato, potresti considerare l'utilizzo di un pettorina (insieme al guinzaglio a scorrimento) se il cane è abituato ad essere toccato quando è fissata. La maggior parte delle pettorine non è anti-scappatoia, ma quelle con una cingia dietro le costole (es. Ruffwear Webmaster o Perfect Fit Harnesses) sono più sicure. I guinzagli retrattili/non estensibili non devono mai essere utilizzati sui nostri cani. Ben is a medium sized (overweight) crossbreed aged around seven to eight years old. Not bothered about the cat. needs resident dog. Adult family Ben was on a kill list at a public shelter in Romania when a lady in the UK offered to take him. Unfortunately Ben was unhandled and the lady was not prepared or experienced enough to cope with his rehabilitation and so we were asked to go and get him and enter upon that journey with him. It’s taken several months but Ben is now ready to move on. He still has the annoying habit of chewing through his lead if not watched carefully hence the metal lead in the pics! Other than that he’s actually emerging into a sweet old boy who has even begun to casually ask for fuss and attention. His love for food helps to win his trust and confidence but at some time soon his diet and exercise regime are going to have to be addressed. This will be secondary to becoming friends tho. Ben mixes well with other dogs and would like at least one other dog in his forever home. He really can’t be bothered with the cat. He will need someone patient to win his trust but after a few weeks he has the potential to be a comical and loving companion. At this point effort will need to be made to retrieve the waistline I’m sure he once had. If you like a dog with a bit of quirk and character and appreciate a little stubbornness chucked into the mix for good measure then Ben is the boy for you. He won’t love you overnight but you’ll enjoy the challenge of getting to that point with him and treasure the bond even more. Adoption Terms & Conditions When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a secure metal crate.
