Bugsy kam am Weihnachtstag des letzten Jahres ins Hotel und war in einem traurigen Zustand. Bugsy ist den Mitarbeitern des Cardiff Dogs Home bereits seit mehreren Jahren als wiederkehrender Streuner bekannt. In diesem Fall, nach Diskussionen mit dem Hundeführer, kehrte er nicht zu seinem vorherigen Besitzer zurück, und wir intervenierten, um die dringend benötigte tierärztliche Versorgung zu gewährleisten. Nach einem Besuch beim Rescue Hotel Health Centre stellten wir fest, dass Bugsy eine Notnageltrimmung benötigte, da seine Nägel so lange gewachsen waren, dass sie sich wie Korkenzieher verformt und schmerzhaft in seine Pfote eingewachsen waren. Er litt auch an Zahnkrankheiten und war stark übergewichtig. Am meisten beunruhigend war, dass Bugsy eine große, grapefruitgroße Masse an seiner Seite hatte. Nach Gesprächen mit unserem Tierarzt arrangierte und finanzierte das Rescue Hotel eine Operation zur Entfernung der Masse, sowie die Kastration und die Zahnbehandlung von Bugsy, die sofort geplant wurden. Die Operation fand im Rescue Hotel Health Centre statt und Bugsy war während der gesamten Zeit ein absoluter Held. Bugsy erholt sich unter der Betreuung der Mitarbeiter des Cardiff Dogs Home und genießt seine Zeit als verwöhnter "Bürohund". Als der Tierarzt mit seiner Genesung zufrieden war, wurde er mit seinem neuen Zuhause verbunden und adoptiert. Er lebt jetzt das Leben, das er verdient, und fühlt sich viel leichter! Seit seiner Adoption hat sich Bugsy in das Leben auf dem Land eingelebt und seine liebevolle neue Mama hat uns freundlicherweise einen Bericht über seinen Fortschritt gegeben. „Als Bugsy in sein endgültiges Zuhause kam, schwanzte er schneller als Windschutzscheibenwischer, rannte begeistert durch das Haus, um die neuen Umgebungen zu erkunden und zu beschnüffeln, und kam dann für einen großen Kuss und eine Umarmung auf die Couch. Ich glaube, er hat endlich erkannt, dass er endlich sicher war.“ „Bugsy weckt seine Mama um 7 Uhr morgens pünktlich zum Frühstück, ohne dass es erlaubt ist, länger zu schlafen. Danach ein kurzer Spaziergang durch das Dorf – dann eine königliche Trage oder ein Kinderwagen-Ritt nach Hause! Sie finden Bugsy nachmittags Tee bei den Damen zum Mittagessen – im Fablas-Eiscafé oder im Ocho Lounge (wo er...”

Bugsy arrived at the Hotel on Christmas Eve last year and was in a sorry state. Bugsy has unfortunately been known to the staff at Cardiff Dogs Home for a number of years as a recurring stray. On this occasion, following discussions with the Dog Warden, he did not return to his previous owner, and we stepped in to provide the veterinary care he desperately needed. Following a visit to The Rescue Hotel Health Centre, we established Bugsy required an emergency nail trim, as his nails had grown so long that they had formed corkscrews and curled painfully into his paw pad. He was also suffering from dental disease, and was grossly overweight. Most concerningly, Bugsy had a large grapefruit sized mass on his side. After discussions with our vet, The Rescue Hotel arranged and funded surgery to remove the mass, along with Bugsy’s castration and dental procedure, which were scheduled promptly. The operation took place at The Rescue Hotel Health Centre and Bugsy was an absolute star throughout. Bugsy recovered under the care of the Cardiff Dogs Home staff, enjoying his time as the spoilt “office dog”. Once the vet was happy with his recovery, he was matched to his new home, and adopted. He's now living the life he deserves and feeling much lighter! Since his adoption, Bugsy has been settling into life in the countryside and his lovely new mum has kindly given us an update on his progress. “When Bugsy arrived at his forever home, he wagged his tail faster than windscreen wipers, ran excitedly around the house to explore and sniff out the new surroundings, and came for a big kiss and cuddle on the sofa. I think he realised, at last, he was finally safe” “Bugsy gets his mum up at 7am sharp for breakfast with no lie ins permitted. Followed by a short dog walk around the village – then a royal carry, or pram ride home! You will find Bugsy having afternoon tea with the ladies that lunch – at Fablas ice cream parlour, or Ocho lounge (where he gets amazing treats). Closely followed by a nap and an evening potter in the garden – to bork bork at the birds, and foxes. Bugsy enjoys night time cuddles before he is off to sleep to dream about free ice cream and whipped cream” We also asked Bugsy’s mum about her thoughts on adopting a dog who had undergone major surgery. Here at the Hotel, sadly many dogs that need our help have ongoing or often lifelong medical needs which mean they can be overlooked by potential adopters. “After initially being a bit wary about adopting Bugsy (due to major surgery) after I’d obtained his medical history from the vets, got an insurance quote, and spoke to the staff, I felt much more at ease and happy to fully adopt him. After all of his suffering and neglect, he deserved the very best home” “This reassured me that even though his pre-existing conditions weren’t covered, any future illness would be…I have previously adopted 3 elderly rescue pugs before, so was well aware of the breed and possible future health concerns and was not fazed by this ( Can’t Change A Dog’s Past, But You Can Change Its Future)” Thanks to your donations, The Rescue Hotel were able to step in to help Bugsy and we are so pleased Bugsy has now found the forever home he deserves.
