Louise has come to us from a breeder and is now looking for a very special forever home. She is an extremely worried little girl who has had very little positive human socialisation and currently finds people and handling very frightening. Although she is still a very scared girl, she has already started to show us that, with patience and understanding, she is capable of making lovely progress. Over the past month, Louise has grown in confidence every single day. While she is still terrified of being touched and picked up, she is no longer as shut down as she was when she first arrived. She is now more than happy to come over for treats and will happily sit close by while waiting for more. As she has begun to relax, her cheeky little personality has started to shine through. She likes to use her voice to let everyone know exactly how she's feeling, is very partial to chasing flies, and has quite a big personality packed into such a tiny dog. Watching her confidence slowly grow has been an absolute pleasure. Louise will need a calm and quiet adult-only home with no visiting children, and adopters who have experience helping fearful ex-breeding dogs learn to trust. She relies heavily on the comfort and reassurance of other dogs and will need at least one kind and confident resident dog in her new home who can help guide her as she settles into family life. Although Louise takes great comfort from other dogs, she can show signs of resource guarding around food. For this reason, she will need to be fed separately from any resident dogs, and care should be taken when offering treats or other high-value food items. Her adopters will need experience managing this behaviour calmly and appropriately. Louise is slowly becoming more comfortable with being handled, and gentle work has begun to help her get used to being picked up. While this is still very worrying for her and she can become wriggly and panic when lifted, she has never tried to bite during these sessions. We are confident this will continue to improve with time as she learns that she is safe and that nobody is going to hurt her. Having never lived in a home before, Louise has lots to learn. Her adopters will need to be patient and understanding as she adjusts to home life and learns the basics, including house training. She is not yet ready to begin harness training or venture out into the outside world, so her future family will need to carefully plan how they will introduce these experiences when she feels ready. Everything must happen at Louise's pace to ensure she continues building confidence rather than becoming overwhelmed. Louise is a sensitive little soul who will need a dedicated home willing to invest time, patience and understanding into helping her flourish. Every small step she takes is a huge achievement, and she continues to surprise us with just how much she is growing in confidence. With experienced adopters, kind canine companions and lots of love, we truly believe Louise will continue to blossom into the wonderful little dog we know she can become. Louise has a travel document. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.
