Ο παρακάτω φίλος Φρεντι είναι ένας αγαπημένος κάτοικος στα κλειστά μας. Είναι ένας όμορφος νεαρός με ένα χαρισματικό χαρακτήρα, μουσαμάνια καφετί και υπέροχα άμβρακα μάτια. Είναι πολύ τυχαίος όταν παίζει στο πεδίο μας με την ποδοσφαιρική του μπάλα και μπορεί να σας δώσει λίγα πόδια αν μπορέσετε να τον συλλάβετε. Ο Φρεντι έχει εμφανιστεί για περισσότερα από δύο χρόνια, που είναι ιδιαίτερα λυπηρό επειδή είναι πραγματικά ένας εξαιρετικός νεαρός. Είναι φιλικός με τα άτομα, καθαρός στο κατάστημά του, γνωρίζει όλες τις εντολές του και είναι ουδέτερος με άλλα σκύλους κατά τις βόλτες. Περπατά υπέροχα στη χοντρή χοντρή με ένα γενκον (στην πραγματικότητα θα περπατούσε χιλιάδες μίλια αν του το επιτρέψεις, γιατί αγαπά να είναι εκτός). Το βράδυ του αρέσει να ξεκουράται και να κοιμάται τη νύχτα. Δυστυχώς, ο Φρεντι έχει μια ασθένεια που λέγεται Λεισχμανίαση. Μια γρήγορη αναζήτηση στο Google μπορεί να φανεί πολύ σοβαρή· ωστόσο, ο Φρεντι είναι τυχερός στο ότι δεν τον επηρεάζει καθόλου. Είναι ασυμπτωματικό, που σημαίνει ότι δεν πάσχει από τα συνηθισμένα συμπτώματα που μπορεί να φανούν σε σκύλους που δεν λαμβάνουν κατάλληλη θεραπεία. Λαμβάνει μια μικρή πιπιάδα καθημερινά με το φαγητό του, την οποία τρώει ολόκληρη χωρίς να το ξέρει, και έχει ένα ετήσιο τεστ αίματος. Οι φύλακες μας έχουν πει ότι είναι ένας από τους υγιέστερους σκύλους Leish+ που έχουν θεωρήσει ποτέ, και μπορούμε να είμαστε σίγουροι ότι ο Φρεντι ζει μια χαρούμενη, υγιή ζωή. Θέλουμε επίσης να είμαστε πολύ σαφείς ότι η Λεισχμανίαση δεν μπορεί να μεταδοθεί σε άλλους σκύλους, ζώα ή ανθρώπους. Αν υπάρχει κάτι που αγαπά ο Φρεντι πραγματικά, είναι το ποδόσφαιρο. Είναι στην καλύτερη του κατάσταση στο πεδίο μας, τρέχοντας γύρω με τη μπάλα στο στόμα του. Αγαπά επίσης την εκπαίδευση και ακούει πολύ καλά όταν υπάρχουν τρόφιμα στο παιχνίδι. Έχει κατακτήσει το δρόμο μας, αιχμηρά πηδώντας πάνω από πλατφόρμες και διαπερνώντας το τροχοπέδιο. Μόλις ξεκουραστεί, θέλει να μας συνοδεύσει στο κινητό μας για ένα αγκάκι, βάζοντας πάνω σου ώστε να μπορείς να βάλεις ένα χέρι γύρω απ’ αυτόν. Ο Φρεντι έχει μια χαριτωμένη, θερμή ιδιοσυγκρασία που τον κάνει να είναι ένας αγαπημένος μεταξύ του προσωπικού μας και των εθελοντών. Ο Φρεντι είναι ουδέτερος σε άλλα σκύλους κατά τις βόλτες, που είναι ιδανικό. Δεν έχει μοιραστεί χώρο μέσα σε ένα άλλο σκύλο ποτέ, αλλά αυτό μπορεί να θεωρηθεί μετά από μια αποτελεσματική συνάντηση. Our boy Freddie is a much-loved resident at our kennels. He is a handsome lad with a charming personality, dirty blonde fur and gorgeous amber eyes. He is happiest when he’s playing in our field with his football, and he might even let you get a few kicks in if you can catch him. Freddie has been with us for over two years, which is such a shame because he really is a wonderful boy. He is friendly with people, clean in his crate, knows all his commands and is neutral with other dogs when out on walks. He walks beautifully on lead with a gencon (in fact, he would walk for miles if you let him, as he loves being out and about). In the evenings he enjoys snuggling up and happily sleeps through the night. Unfortunately, Freddie has a disease called Leishmaniasis. A quick Google search can make this sound very serious; however, Freddie is very fortunate in that it does not affect his life in any way. He is asymptomatic, meaning he does not suffer from the typical symptoms sometimes seen in dogs who do not receive appropriate treatment. He takes a small tablet daily with his food, which he wolfs down completely none the wiser, and has a yearly blood test. Our vets have said he is one of the healthiest Leish+ dogs they have ever seen, and we can confidently say that Freddie is living a happy, healthy life. We would also like to make it very clear that Leishmaniasis cannot be spread to other dogs, animals or humans. If there is one thing Freddie truly loves, it’s football. He is at his happiest in our field, charging around with his ball in his mouth. He also loves training and listens very well when treats are involved. He has mastered our assault course, confidently leaping over ramps and through the tyre hoop. Once he’s tired himself out, he likes to join us in our caravan for a cuddle, leaning into you so you can pop an arm around him. Freddie has a wonderfully silly, affectionate streak that makes him a firm favourite with our staff and volunteers. Freddie is neutral towards other dogs when out on walks, which is ideal. He has not shared indoor space with another dog before, but this could be considered following a successful meet and greet. We are looking for a home without cats or small furries. Freddie does like children, but due to his size and energy levels we would recommend a home with children aged 14+. A garden where he can play football is an absolute must, he insists! He can push his luck at times, but he knows the word “no” and will listen once he’s finished throwing a brief teenage strop. Recently, we’ve had the feeling that Freddie is starting to feel a little depressed in the kennels. While he enjoys his routine and loves spending time with our staff and volunteers, what he really wants is a home. A place where he can feel loved and have all the individual attention he deserves. All he asks for is someone with a little patience and understanding who’s willing to take a chance on him. We would also consider a long-term foster placement for Freddie. He is an absolutely cracking dog and, although we would be very sad to see him go, we would be thrilled to see him settled into a loving home of his own.
