olby egy közepes méretű keresztedény, kb. öt éves. Colby kb. egy évvel ezelőtt került hozzánk a romániai Botosani nyilvános menhelyről. Szó szerint azt lehet mondani, hogy jól megtanították a félelemre és ellenszenvre az emberektől, amit a humanitásból látott. Az sem igazán számít, ha azt mondanánk, hogy nem kedvelt minket, és sokáig csak enni adni tudtunk neki, és ott lenni mellette. Idővel megszereztem a bizalmát annyira, hogy eltávolítsuk a sötét, csomós hajtöveit, amiket hozzájárult. Lassan megkedvelt bennünket. Colby most egyik kedvenc karakterünk. Szeret játszani a porbontóval, amikor letisztítjuk a padlót, a legizgatottabb a csapatban, amikor hazajövök a leghosszabb vásárlásról, és teljesen elszabadul a boldogságtól, amikor visszatérek a rendszeres utamról Romániába. Colbynek állandóan más kutyával kell élnie. Szüksége van valakire, aki jó szinten jár a félénk kutyákkal, aki hajlandó türelmes lenni, hogy megnyerje a bizalmát. Nem tudom elmondani, mennyire értékes, először talán nem látod a valódi arcát, de néhány héten belül amúgy is megdöbbentő és megszerethető lesz a kutyád. Egy felnőtt otthoni környezetben kell élnie. Nyugdíjas kutyák (10+ éves): 150-250 font (a kor és az egyéni igényektől függően). Az Állatorvos Politika Amikor egy Safe Rescue kutyát adoptál, kötelező használni egy csúszókaszábot. Ez biztosítja a kutya biztonságát: az új kutya félénk és nem fog bízni benned, és nem tudod, milyen helyzetek zavarhatják meg a kutyádat. Ha a kutya pánikba esik, akkor a csúszókaszáb a megoldás, hogy megakadályozza, hogy kiszökjön (sok kutya kiszökhet egy nyakörvből és/vagy egy mellső öv alatt). Még akkor is, ha a kutya megnyugodott, biztonságosabb a csúszókaszáb használata olyan helyzetekben, ahol a kutya félni fog (pl. új helyek látogatása, ismeretlen emberek körében, a házi orvossal, stb.), illetve olyan helyzetekben, ahol váratlan trigger-ek történhetnek (pl. tűzijáték idején). A félénk kutyák mindig viselhetik a csúszókaszábot mint tartalék biztonsági eszközt. A csúszókaszáb egy biztonsági eszköz, és soha nem szabad tanítási eszközként használni. Ne alkalmazz nyomást a kutya nyakára a vezető segítségével, mivel ez káros. Ha a kutya húzza a vezetőt, akkor segíthetünk a módszerek kiválasztásában, amelyek nem okoznak kárt. Miután megnyugszik a kutya, érdemes megfontolni a használatot egy mellső övvel (együtt a csúszókaszábbal), ha a kutya kényelmesen viseli a felszerelést. A mellső övek nem mind escape-proof, de olyan mellső övek, amelyeken van egy sáv a bordák mögött (pl. Ruffwear Webmaster vagy Perfect Fit mellső övek) biztonságosabbak. A húzó / húzható vezetőket soha nem szabad használni a mi kutyáinknál. Az adoptált kutyákat a menhelyről kell összeszedni, és egy raktárral közvetlenül hazaviszni. olby is a medium sized crossbreed aged around five years old. Colby came into our care around a year ago from the Botosani public shelter in Romania. Safe to say he’d been well taught to fear and dislike people from all he’d seen from the human race. To say he didn’t like us would be an understatement and it was a long time before we could do anything but feed him and just be around him. Over time we gained his trust enough to remove the matted dreadlocks he’d come to us carrying, little by little he grew to love us. Colby is now one of our favourite characters. He loves to play with the broom when we sweep the floors, he gets the most excited of the whole pack when I come home from the quickest of errands and is beside himself with excitement when I return from my regular trips to Romania. Colby will need to live with another dog or dogs full time. He will need someone with a good level of experience with nervous dogs who is willing to be patient to earn his trust. I cannot tell you how rewarding he is, you may not see the real him initially but after a few weeks you will be amused and besotted with the dog that will be revealed. Adoption Policy When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a crate. Fences and gates must be 5ft min & secure.
