Candy is a tiny, delicate little lady with a big heart and an even bigger need for closeness. She’s as light as a feather and—absolutely smitten with people. Just a brief moment of contact is enough for her to decide that you’re her place in the world—she can jump onto your lap in a split second and shower you with kisses as if she’s making up for all the time she’s missed. When she first arrived at the shelter, she was estimated to be one year old, but we suspect she’s younger, because she behaves like a typical, exuberant puppy. At the shelter, Candy can be very emotional—she’s like liquid silver, bursting with energy, and often “releases” her tension by jumping around and intensely seeking attention from humans. However, on walks, she learns quickly: when her behavior is ignored, she can calm down and keep going. On the one hand, she’s full of enthusiasm and curiosity about the world; on the other hand, she has little life experience and hasn’t yet encountered many things, so sometimes she feels overwhelmed, overstimulated, or frightened. On walks, she does quite well on the leash, happily exploring her surroundings and sniffing everything in sight. Yet she also has moments of uncertainty—especially in the woods or in new, more challenging situations, she can get scared and then seeks human support, snuggling close or even jumping right into your arms. With a person by her side, she quickly regains her confidence. Candy responds well to other dogs, though her emotions can be intense—she greets them with great enthusiasm and curiosity, which might be tiring for sensitive or insecure dogs. Occasionally, she reacts fearfully to larger dogs, so she needs a calm introduction and wise guidance when interacting with dogs of her own species. For Candy, we’re looking for a home that: - will be patient and consistent, committed to training and working with a teenage dog, - will help her calm her emotions and learn a calmer way of interacting with both humans and dogs, - will provide plenty of activity and regular walks (Candy has lots of energy), - won’t expect an “ideal dog right away,” but rather wants to build the relationship step by step, - ideally won’t have a too chaotic environment—Candy needs stability and a sense of security, so a home with young children, where there’s a lot going on and frequent visitors, wouldn’t be the best fit for her. We don’t know how Candy gets along with other companion animals, including cats. During the adoption process, we recommend a pre-adoption visit to see how Candy adjusts to the home and to the potential walking area. If Candy were to go to a home where another animal already lives, it would be essential to introduce her to the resident pet.

Candy to młodziutka, drobna sunia o wielkim sercu i jeszcze większej potrzebie bliskości. Jest lekka jak piórko i… absolutnie zakochana w ludziach. Wystarczy chwila kontaktu, żeby uznała, że człowiek to jej miejsce na ziemi – potrafi w sekundę wskoczyć na kolana i rozdawać buziaki, jakby chciała nadrobić cały stracony czas. Przy przyjęciu do schroniska została oceniona na rok, ale wydaje nam się, że jest młodsza, bo zachowuje się jak typowe, rozbrykane szczenię. W schronisku Candy bywa bardzo emocjonalna – to żywe srebro, pełne energii, które często „wyrzuca” z siebie napięcie poprzez skakanie i intensywne zaczepianie człowieka. Na spacerach szybko się jednak uczy – kiedy jej zachowania są ignorowane, potrafi się wyciszyć i iść dalej. Z jednej strony nie brakuje jej entuzjazmu i ciekawości świata, z drugiej jednak strony ma małe doświadczenie życiowe, wielu rzeczy nigdy jeszcze nie doświadczyła, więc bywa, że czuje się przytłoczona, przebodźcowana lub wystraszona. Na spacerach radzi sobie całkiem dobrze na smyczy, chętnie eksploruje teren i węszy. Ma też momenty niepewności – szczególnie w lesie lub w nowych, trudniejszych sytuacjach potrafi się przestraszyć i wtedy szuka wsparcia człowieka, przytulając się albo wręcz wskakując na ręce. Z człowiekiem u boku szybko odzyskuje odwagę. Candy dobrze reaguje na inne psy, choć jej emocje bywają intensywne – z ogromnym entuzjazmem i ciekawością chce się przywitać, co dla delikatnych i niepewnych siebie psów może być męczące. Zdarza się, że reaguje lękowo na większe psy, więc potrzebuje spokojnego wprowadzenia i mądrego prowadzenia w kontaktach ze swoim gatunkiem. Dla Candy szukamy domu, który: - będzie cierpliwy i konsekwentny, nastawiony na naukę i pracę z psim podrostkiem, - pomoże jej wyciszyć emocje i nauczyć się spokojniejszego kontaktu z człowiekiem i psami, - zapewni aktywność i spacery (Candy ma dużo energii), - nie oczekuje „idealnego psa od razu”, tylko chce zbudować relację krok po kroku, - najlepiej bez zbyt chaotycznego środowiska – Candy potrzebuje stabilności i poczucia bezpieczeństwa, więc dom z młodszymi dziećmi, w którym dużo się dzieje, często są goście, nie będzie dobrym domem dla Candy. Nie znamy stosunku Candy do innych zwierząt towarzyszących, w tym kotów. W procesie adopcyjnym rekomendujemy wizytę przedadopcyjną, aby sprawdzić jak Candy odnajdzie się w domu oraz potencjalnej okolicy spacerowej. Jeśli Candy miałaby trafić do domu, gdzie jest już inne zwierzę, wymagane będzie zapoznanie z rezydentem.
