Some kittens grow up with people around them. Some kittens learn later that people don't have to be scary. Some of our kittens are still very nervous about human contact and have not been used to touch and closeness enough during their most important socialization period. That's why we're looking for a special kind of place for them: a place where nothing is expected of them. During an introduction at the shelter, they won't come to you enthusiastically. They won't let you pet them, seek contact or snuggle up on your lap. They'd rather watch you safely from a distance. We can't predict how this will develop in the future. Maybe with a lot of time and patience they will gain more confidence and eventually seek contact cautiously. But it's also possible that they will always find people exciting and remain independent cats who have little need for touch. That's why we're looking for people who don't adopt them with the expectation that they will eventually become cuddly cats, but who really don't mind if that never happens. People who give them the time and space to discover what they do and don't like at their own pace. This doesn't necessarily have to be in a domestic setting. For some of these kittens, a suitable outdoor location can also be an option, for example on a farm, at a stable or in another safe place where they can go their own way as real mouse hunters. Of course, they are still cats that need to be cared for: they need good food, fresh water, shelter and appropriate medical care every day. The small steps are very valuable for these kittens. Maybe they will learn to trust you more and come closer eventually, but maybe they will rather stay at a distance. Both is okay. Maar achter die verlegen snoetjes zitten nieuwsgierige kittens die simpelweg wat meer tijd nodig hebben. Met rust, geduld en liefde verwachten we dat ze zich steeds verder zullen ontpoppen. De eerste keer dat ze zelf wat dichterbij komen, ontspannen blijven liggen terwijl jij in de buurt bent of voorzichtig een aaitje toelaten, zijn juist de mooiste stapjes. Hoe ze zich uiteindelijk zullen ontwikkelen, kunnen we natuurlijk niet voorspellen. Misschien blijven ze altijd wat zelfstandiger en op zichzelf. Maar misschien hebben we het helemaal mis en ligt jouw verlegen kitten over een tijdje gewoon languit bij je op schoot. We zoeken daarom baasjes die door het verlegen gedrag in het asiel heen kunnen kijken en een kitten de tijd geven om op zijn of haar eigen tempo vertrouwen op te bouwen. Tijdens een kennismaking in het asiel zullen deze kittens waarschijnlijk niet direct op je af komen rennen. Ze blijven ze op afstand of vinden ze een aai nog een beetje spannend. Hierdoor is het soms lastig om tijdens één bezoek meteen een klik te voelen. Maar soms heeft de mooiste band gewoon wat meer tijd nodig. 🐱 Wil jij mij een huisje bieden?
