È un enorme tappeto 3D peloso o un cane Newfoundland? Questo meraviglioso e inaspettato cane (per le Isole Canarie) è arrivato nel nostro santuario estremamente sovrappeso e molto malato. Era stato acquistato come cucciolo dalla penisola spagnola per una cifra estremamente elevata sull'isola. Purtroppo la famiglia bene intenzionata non aveva fatto ricerche sulle esigenze di una razza del genere e, come spesso accade, aveva sottovalutato le cure necessarie. Specialmente su un'isola calda. Ha trascorso la maggior parte della sua vita vivendo sul tetto, crediamo perché il suo continuo gocciolamento e la perdita dei peli non creassero troppo disordine nell'appartamento. Quando è arrivata da noi aveva già 8 anni, che non è giovane per un cane di questa razza. Ma il peggio era il suo peso e la sua resistenza. Nel corso del tempo con noi ha perso quasi 20 chili e ora può correre. Si è innamorata follemente di Edo, lui è l'unico che riesce a farla muovere e giocare. Ma è davvero bello da vedere, come se si fosse rinvigorita e finalmente potesse godersi la sua vita. Finché continuiamo a pettinarla, i suoi trattamenti e i bagni negli stagni per cavalli, sta bene. Anche se cani di questo tipo sono bellissimi e interessanti, le persone devono fare delle ricerche per capire che sono complessi e richiedono molte cure speciali. Non si adattano allo stile di vita normale. Fortunatamente per Aika, i suoi proprietari hanno capito che non le stavano dando ciò di cui aveva bisogno e ci hanno contattati per aiutarla a vivere meglio. Quindi il suo futuro è felice, è solo un peccato che non lo avessero capito prima. Sia stato l'orgoglio o quello che pensavano fosse l'amore, non è stato mettere le esigenze del cane al primo posto e questo dovrebbe sempre essere il modo quando si prende un animale domestico!

Is it a big hairy 3D rug or a Newfoundland dog? This amazing and unexpected dog (for the Canary islands) arrived at our sanctuary incredibly overweight and very unhealthy. She was bought as a puppy from mainland Spain for an extreme amount of money to the island. Sadly the well meaning family had not done their research on a breed like this and far too commonly misjudged the care they need. Especially on a hot island. She then spent the majority of her life living on a roof, we assume so that her non-stop dribble and hair loss did not make too much of a mess in the apartment. When she arrived with us she was already 8 years old which is not young for a dog of this breed. But the worst was her weight and stamina. Over the time with us she has lost nearly 20 kilos and can now run. She has fallen madly in love with Edo, he is the only one who can make her move and play. But it is truly beautiful to see, as if she has grown younger and is finally able to enjoy her life. As long as we keep up with brushing her, her rehab and soaks in the horse baths, she is thriving. Although dogs like this are beautiful and interesting, people need to do their research to see that they are complicated and require lots of special care. They do not fit in the normal life style. Fortunately for Aika her owners realised they were not giving her what they needed and contacted us to help give her a better life. So her future is happy, it is just a shame they did not realise earlier. Whether it was pride or what they thought was love, it was not putting the dogs needs first and that should always be the way when you get a pet!
