Dalla paura alla libertà, Nova sta imparando ad essere un cavallo. Champagne Supernova, o "Nova" come la chiamiamo affettuosamente, è arrivata come uno dei nostri casi più insoliti. A differenza di molti dei nostri cavalli, non è arrivata con il peso insufficiente o visibilmente trascurata. Anzi, era l'opposto: sovrappeso a causa di una dieta poco sana, ma profondamente malata in ogni altro senso. Non sapevamo molto di lei prima che arrivasse. Un giorno, un furgone per cavalli si fermò al santuario e uscì una giumenta che aveva trascorso tutta la sua vita vissuta in una caverna buia. Quello che abbiamo trovato è stato devastante. Nonostante il suo peso, Nova era uno dei cavalli più stressati e emotivamente chiusi che avessimo mai incontrato. Portava grandi edemi sotto il ventre a causa di una dieta cattiva e mancanza di movimento, e il suo linguaggio corporeo mostrava anni di paura e ansia. Aveva paura di tutto: delle persone, degli altri cavalli e della vita stessa. Ogni rumore, ogni movimento la metteva in allarme. Era chiaro che non aveva mai sperimentato la semplice libertà di essere un cavallo. Ma lentamente, giorno dopo giorno, questo iniziò a cambiare. Da quando è arrivata, Nova ha iniziato a rilassarsi nel suo nuovo mondo - un mondo pieno di sole, spazi aperti, mani dolci e voci gentili. Sta imparando a fidarsi, a muoversi liberamente e a connettersi nuovamente. La sua trasformazione ci ricorda che la guarigione non è solo questione di cibo e rifugio: è questione di sicurezza, amore e tempo. Champagne Supernova ha ancora un lungo percorso davanti, ma ogni piccolo passo che fa è una vittoria. From fear to freedom, Nova is learning how to be a horse Champagne Supernova, or “Nova” as we affectionately call her, arrived as one of our most unusual cases. Unlike many of our horses, she didn’t come to us underweight or visibly neglected. In fact, she was the opposite — overweight from a unhealthy diet, but deeply unwell in every other way. We didn’t know much about her before she arrived. One day, a horse box pulled up at the sanctuary and out stepped a mare who had spent her entire life living in a dark cave. What we found was heart-breaking. Despite her weight, Nova was one of the most stressed and emotionally shut-down horses we had ever met. She carried large edemas under her belly from poor diet and lack of movement, and her body language showed years of fear and anxiety. She was terrified of everything — of people, of other horses, and of life itself. Every sound, every movement sent her on edge. It was clear she had never experienced the simple freedom of being a horse. But slowly, day by day, that began to change. Since arriving, Nova has started to relax into her new world — a world filled with sunshine, open spaces, gentle hands, and kind voices. She’s learning to trust, to move freely, and to connect again. Her transformation reminds us that healing isn’t just about food and shelter — it’s about safety, love, and time. Champagne Supernova still has a long journey ahead, but every small step she takes is a victory.
