Lei si è trascinata e li ha amati Dobrogea è arrivata nel nostro rifugio nell'estate del 2021 in condizioni che raramente vediamo. Era stata investita da un'auto, con entrambe le zampe posteriori paralizzate e tre arti fratturati. Il suo movimento si limitava a trascinarsi e a fare pochi passi con grande sforzo, fino a quando l'esaurimento non la costringeva a fermarsi. Ma questo non l'ha fermata dal prendersi cura dei suoi cuccioli: due piccole ragazze pelose completamente dipendenti da lei, che abbiamo chiamato Mieunica e Bălănica. Era una madre, una madre straordinaria. Anche nel dolore, anche quasi immobilizzata, continuava a allattarli e a crescerli con un amore che ci lasciava senza parole. Si è trascinata e li ha amati. Li teneva puliti, nutriti e protetti. Le dava tutto ciò che poteva, anche se aveva bisogno disperatamente di aiuto. Abbiamo iniziato un programma complesso di fisioterapia, con esercizi quotidiani progettati per riattivare i muscoli atrofizzati e stimolare la neuroplasticità del cervello. La sua spina dorsale era stata gravemente danneggiata e camminare era diventato un compito quasi impossibile. Ma Dobrogea non si è mai arresa. Con ogni nuovo passo che le abbiamo aiutato a compiere, il suo cervello ha ripreso a imparare come coordinare tutti quei grandi e piccoli muscoli il cui lavoro crea qualcosa così semplice e naturale: camminare. Ha lottato con una determinazione rara, pazienza impressionante e la stessa dolcezza con cui aveva alleviato i suoi cuccioli. Dopo mesi di trattamenti, piccoli progressi e tanta speranza, Dobrogea ha ricominciato a camminare. All'inizio goffamente, con passi incerti, ma poi sempre meglio. A febbraio 2022, ci rendemmo conto che la lotta non era stata inutile: Dobrogea era nuovamente un cane funzionale, che camminava quasi normalmente, pieno di vita e gioia negli occhi. Il tempo passò e Dobrogea rimase nel rifugio - silenziosa e paziente. Non era più una madre, non era più una paziente, ma era sempre pronta a dare: affetto, fedeltà, uno sguardo caldo. Per due anni lunghi ha aspettato di essere scelta. Il suo aspetto ci ricordava tutte quelle donne che, dopo una vita dedicata agli altri, un giorno si chiedono se è finalmente giunto il momento di ricevere qualcosa in cambio. E la risposta è arrivata appena in tempo per le vacanze, a dicembre 2023. Due anni e mezzo dopo il suo salvataggio, Dobrogea è stata adottata. Finalmente, ha trascorso Natale in una vera casa, circondata da persone che l'amano e che le stanno dando la vita che aveva sempre meritato. She Crawled and She Loved Them Dobrogea arrived at our shelter in the summer of 2021, in a condition we rarely see. She had been hit by a car, with both hind legs paralyzed and three limbs fractured. Her movement was limited to dragging her body and taking a few steps with tremendous effort, until exhaustion forced her to stop. But that didn’t stop her from caring for her puppies—two fluffy little girls who were completely dependent on her, and whom we named Mieunica and Bălănica . She was a mother, and an extraordinary one. Even in pain, even nearly immobilized, she continued to nurse and raise them with a love that left us speechless. She crawled and loved them. She kept them clean, fed, and protected. She gave them everything she could, even though she herself desperately needed help. Fighting for Every Step After her puppies were adopted together by a wonderful family in the fall of 2021, Dobrogea finally had the chance to focus on her own recovery. We began a complex physiotherapy program, with daily exercises designed to reactivate her atrophied muscles and stimulate the brain’s neuroplasticity. Her spine had been severely damaged, and walking had become an almost impossible task. But Dobrogea never gave up. With each new step we helped her take, her brain essentially relearned how to coordinate all those large and small muscles whose cooperation creates something so simple and natural: walking. She fought with rare determination, impressive patience, and the same gentleness with which she had raised her puppies. After months of treatments, small progress, and lots of hope, Dobrogea began to walk again. At first clumsily, with uncertain steps, but then better and better. By February 2022, we realized the struggle had not been in vain: Dobrogea was once again a functional dog, walking almost normally, full of life and joy in her eyes. Time passed, and Dobrogea remained in the shelter—quiet and patient. She was no longer a mother, no longer a patient, but always ready to give: affection, loyalty, a warm look. For two long years she waited to be chosen. Her wait reminded us of all those women who, after a life devoted to others, one day find themselves wondering whether it’s finally time to receive something in return. And the answer came just in time for the holidays, in December 2023. Two and a half years after her rescue, Dobrogea was adopted . Finally, she spent Christmas in a real home, surrounded by people who love her and who are giving her the life she always deserved. After all she gave, life has given her a home in return.
