Duke is a 7-year-old French Bulldog who is looking for a home filled with comfort, companionship, and plenty of attention. He is a very affectionate and people-oriented dog who adores everyone he meets. He is often keen to approach people first and enjoys receiving endless fuss. During his recent time on foster, Duke has shown himself to be a very relaxed character who enjoys finding a cosy spot in the kitchen or garden where he can happily sleep the day away. He has settled into his foster home well and showed how much he enjoys being part of a home environment. He can be quite worried outdoors and will sometimes be reluctant to walk. His confidence has improved over time at Battersea Old Windsor, but new owners will need to be patient and realistic about his progress. Duke may never want to go on long walks, and it may take some time before he feels comfortable going out for proper walks. He will benefit from being allowed to explore at his own pace, without being rushed, and given lots of time to take in his surroundings. Duke does gain confidence from having another dog around when outside and has shown to be more confident in their company. Duke could potentially live with another dog as they may help him feel more confident when exploring. However, Duke can display some sexual behaviours towards other dogs, such as intense sniffing, and can be slow to recognise when another dog is asking for more space. Any resident dog would need to be tolerant of this. Duke will need access to his own private garden, giving him a safe space to exercise while he builds his confidence outside the home. He has been housetrained during his recent foster stay, and a private garden will also allow him to continue this training while he settles in. He has found being left alone difficult at times, though in his foster home has been more settled. He is therefore looking for a home with multiple carers. Duke could live with dog-savvy children who understand how to interact respectfully with dogs and can give him space when he needs it. In a home that can provide Duke with lots reassurance, he will make a wonderful companion. His affectionate, people-loving nature and wonderfully chilled personality make him a dog who will thrive with owners willing to take things at his pace.
