Flloyd era il nostro leone residente. Flloyd poteva sembrare uscito direttamente da un documentario sulla fauna selvatica, ma questo magnifico "leone" era in realtà un Maine Coon. È arrivato al santuario dopo che una cara signora, che lo amava molto, si è trovata impossibilitata a continuare a prendersi cura dei suoi gatti per motivi personali. Dopo una lunga e emotiva ricerca della giusta casa, si è sentita certa che fosse questo il posto dove Flloyd potesse vivere la sua vita esattamente come voleva. Ed è successo! Ha avuto una meravigliosa vita qui con noi. Tuttavia, alcune settimane fa abbiamo notato che Floyd stava perdendo peso drasticamente e sapevamo che non andava bene; è stato subito sottoposto a esami completi, analisi del sangue e visite e riferito a uno specialista per ulteriori indagini, ma purtroppo, la notte prima del suo appuntamento, la sua condizione si è deteriorata rapidamente diventando critica. Lo abbiamo portato d'urgenza in clinica di emergenza, ma era già troppo tardi: Floyd era stato diagnosticato con FIP, una malattia grave e rara che causa danni catastrofici al corpo. Le sue cavità toraciche e addominali erano piene di liquido e il suo piccolo corpo non ne poteva più. La FIP è una rara e devastante mutazione di un virus che i gatti incontrano spesso, rendendola ancora più spaventosa e ingiusta. La perdita di Floyd ci ha ricordato che anche con le migliori cure, farmaci, veterinari e l'amore più profondo, a volte non possiamo salvare tutti. Floyd non è più fisicamente con noi, ma sarà sempre parte di noi - il nostro re, il nostro silenzioso giudice, per sempre amato e mai dimenticato.

Flloyd was our resident lion. Flloyd may have looked like he stepped straight out of a wildlife documentary, but this magnificent “lion” was, in fact, a Maine Coon. He arrived at the sanctuary after a caring lady, who adored him dearly, found herself unable to continue caring for her cats due to personal circumstances. After a long, emotional search for the right home, she felt certain that this was the place where Flloyd could live his life exactly as he wished. And he did! He had a wonderful life here with us. However, a few weeks ago we noticed Floyd was losing weight drastically, and we knew something wasn’t right; he was taken straight in for full tests, blood work, and examinations and referred to a specialist for further screenings, but heartbreakingly, the night before his appointment his condition deteriorated rapidly and became critical. We rushed him to the emergency clinic, but it was already too late—Floyd was diagnosed with FIP, a severe and rare disease that causes catastrophic damage to the body. His chest and abdominal cavities had filled with fluid, and his little body simply couldn’t keep up. FIP is a rare and devastating mutation of a virus that cats encounter all the time, making it all the more frightening and unfair. Losing Floyd reminded us that even with the very best care, medications, veterinarians, and the deepest love, sometimes we still cannot save them all. Floyd may no longer be physically with us, but he will always be part of us—our king, our quiet judge, forever loved and never forgotten.
