Alcuni adolescenti hanno organizzato una raccolta fondi e venduto la loro attrezzatura da equitazione per salvare Luther, un cavallo che conoscevano alla scuola di equitazione. Luther viveva in una scuola di equitazione, dove i ragazzi lo avevano conosciuto e amato. Dopo che i proprietari lo avevano portato via, nessuno sapeva cosa gli fosse successo, finché le ragazze non hanno visto un annuncio in cui si diceva che Luther veniva venduto per 800 euro come cavallo da equitazione. Era una sella appoggiata sulla sua schiena, era vecchio, magro e terminalmente zoppo. Le ragazze hanno organizzato una raccolta fondi per salvarlo e lo hanno portato da noi. I suoi muscoli erano così deteriorati che le sue gambe posteriori si piegavano sotto il suo enorme corpo. I suoi piedi erano marci a causa di una infezione batterica chiamata tordo e aveva problemi significativi con le ossa della sua zampa anteriore sinistra, che gli causavano molto dolore alla gamba. Era spaventato, chiuso e arrabbiato, una pallida ombra del possente cavallo che era una volta. All'inizio, ha faticato a prendere peso. Luther è un gigante, è arrivato da noi pelle e ossa e ha bisogno di molta cibo per tornare a un peso sano. I suoi enormi piedi sono un altro grosso problema. Soffre di ascessi perché manca di densità alle sue suole. Dopo una radiografia abbiamo scoperto che soffre di molta artrite nei piedi e nelle articolazioni inferiori, molto probabilmente come risultato del salto. Nella sua zampa anteriore sinistra ha problemi con l'osso del piede. Attualmente Luther è su farmaci naturali per il dolore e lavoriamo a stretto contatto con il veterinario per continuare a trovare il modo migliore per aiutarlo. Luther è un po' un problema. Quando ha dolore, può essere irritato e arrabbiato. Questa è la ragione più probabile per cui è stato passato da casa a casa. È anche molto protettivo e combattivo riguardo al cibo. Questo comportamento di difesa del cibo è una cosa che vediamo spesso nei cavalli che sono stati affamati. Con la corretta gestione dell'esercizio e i farmaci possiamo tenere il suo dolore sotto controllo. Mentre stiamo ancora cercando di capire tutti i suoi problemi, ha bisogno di molta assistenza veterinaria. Al momento è un lavoro in corso, ma ci sforziamo di arrivare a un punto in cui non è disturbato dai suoi problemi di salute e può abbassare la guardia, godendosi la vita nel nostro santuario. Some amazing teenagers did a fundraiser and sold their riding gear to save Luther, a horse they used to know at riding school. Luther was living at a riding school, where the kinds got to know and love him. After the owners took him away, nobody knew what happened to him, until the teenagers saw an advertisement of Luther being sold for €800 as a riding horse. A saddle balanced on his spine, he was old, skinny and terminally lame. The girls organized a fundraiser to save him and brought him to us. His muscles were so deteriorated that his back legs buckled under his giant frame. His feet were rotten with thrush, a bacterial infection, and he has significant problems with the bones in his left front foot, causing him a lot of pain in his leg. He was scared, shut down and angry, a shell of the almighty horse he once was. First, he struggled to gain weight. Luther is a giant, he arrived to us skin and bones and he needs a lot of food to get back to a healthy weight. His huge feet are another big problem. He suffers from abscesses because there is a lack of density to his soles. After an x-ray we found out that he suffers from a lot of arthritis in his feet and lower joints, most likely as a result from showjumping. In his front left foot he has problems with the pedal bone. Currently Luther is on natural pain medication and we work closely with the vet to continue to find the best way to help him. Luther is a little bit of a problem child. When he is in pain, he can be irritated and angry. This is most likely the reason he has been passed from home to home. He is also very protective and combative about food. This resource guarding is a thing we see often with horses that were starved. With the correct exercise management and medication we can keep his pain at bay. As we are still figuring out all of his problems, he needs a lot of vet care. At the moment he is a work in progress, but we strive to get to a point where he is not bothered by his health challenges and he can let his guard down, enjoying life at our sanctuary.
