Adottare MONA (PPP)

Mona — A dog who hasn’t learned yet that the world can be safe, looking for the right person to help her learn Mona (PPP) is a beautiful dark 2-year-old Alano cross. In Spain she falls under PPP licensing requirements, which means an easy-to-obtain licence is needed to own her. She can travel to the UK and most parts of Europe. She has only recently arrived and is a little overwhelmed right now. She is trying, but she doesn’t yet have the tools to cope. At the moment, the world is too much for her and we don’t think she has had much experience of it at all. Everything seems new to her — the busy chaos of the shelter, tractors, plastic bags blowing in the wind, dogs, people. She doesn’t react with aggression. She doesn’t bark or challenge anything. She just looks for safety Sometimes that means she tries to get as close to the walker as possible, freezes, or tries to escape the feeling of being overwhelmed. She is happy to have a lead put on, but then gets a little jumpy when she realises there’s a person on the other end. She also doesn’t do so well when there are lots of dogs and walkers around her at the same time, and in those moments she will either look to her walker for protection or press herself against fences or barriers to try to cope with the pressure. Once she is out in a quieter space she changes. She stays close, she watches everything carefully, and you can see her curiosity slowly starting to come through She isn’t a shut-down dog. She is a sensitive one who is still trying to understand what the world is. Her breed type is naturally quite steady and observant, and often cautious with new experiences, so she is the kind of dog who needs time and familiarity to build confidence, especially when early exposure has been limited. The shelter environment, with its constant movement, noise, and unpredictability, is not helping her settle or learn at her own pace. What she really needs now is a calm, stable home where she can decompress and begin to understand life in a safe and structured way. In a kennel setting, this kind of guidance takes much longer — not because she is difficult, but because she simply cannot process everything at once. She has started to enjoy walks more and responds well to just walking calmly, with her walker giving steady reassurance rather than overloading her with too much emotion. Little by little, she is learning that nothing bad is going to happen This doesn’t mean she cannot be fussed or cuddled — quite the opposite She has a strong bond with people and clearly enjoys human contact and affection. It’s simply about timing. At the moment, she needs calm during walks and gentle reassurance, without emotional overload, so she can stay regulated and process the world at her own pace. Once she is back in a safe, quiet environment at home she will very much enjoy affection, calm interaction, and the comfort of being with her people What she needs now is a calm, predictable home where she can decompress and begin to build confidence at her own pace. She will need quiet walking environments to start with, without pressure or expectation, and a person who understands that exposure to the world must be gradual and carefully managed, not rushed. She will do best with a steady routine and a calm handler who can offer quiet reassurance without over-fussing, someone who allows her to observe, process, and choose to engage when she is ready She is not a dog who needs to be pushed forward. She is a dog who needs to be given time to come forward on her own. But in the right home, everything about her world will change What is overwhelming now will become normal. What she watches from the sidelines will slowly become something she can move through with ease. And in time, she will stop existing on the edge of things and start living fully within them. And the reward for the adopter will be a very real, grounded bond — not instant, but built A dog who learns to trust you deeply, who looks to you for reassurance, and who becomes quietly loyal in a way that is steady and lasting.
