This small, petite boy arrived with a thick, mud-caked leather collar he’s still too terrified to let us remove. He is a tiny soul who has clearly been let down by the people who should have protected him. The Reality for Reuben: * Tiny & Fragile: Reuben is a small dog, making his intense fear even more heartbreaking to witness. * Touch Shy: He flinches when you reach out to stroke him. He’s learning that hands can be kind, but he isn’t there yet. * Frozen with Fear: Returning to his kennel caused him to freeze and shake with pure terror. He is currently very overwhelmed by transitions. * Uncertain of Others: He gives a low rumble at other dogs—not out of aggression, but out of a deep need for space and safety. The Glimmer of Hope: Despite his fear, Reuben is curious. On his first walk, he took things very slow, sniffing the air and taking in the world at his own pace. He wants to trust; he just needs someone to show him it’s okay to let his guard down. What Reuben Needs: * A Patient, Quiet Home: Ideally with no small children who might move too fast for him. * An Experienced Heart: Someone who understands that a small dog's "growl" is often just a plea for a little distance. * Gentle Guidance: Someone willing to go at his speed, helping this little guy realize he never has to be afraid again.
